Enabling Power Saving Mode:

  1. Tap "Apps" while viewing a home screen
  2. Go to "Settings"
  3. Swipe to "System" and then tap "Power saving"
  4. Tap "Power saving mode" and set the switch to "ON"
  5. You can change the way Power Saving mode works by enabling / disabling features such as "Greyscale mode", "CPU performance" under "Restrict performance" etc.

Enabling Ultra Power Saving Mode:

NOTE: The SGS5 Mini comes with a new "Ultra Power Saving Mode" that turns the TouchWiz UI into black & white, thus allowing the Super AMOLED display to work at much lower power levels, prolonging battery life. To enable Ultra Power Saving Mode:

  1. Tap "Apps" while on the home screen
  2. Go to "Settings"
  3. Swipe to "System" and tap "Power saving"
  4. Tap "Ultra Power saving mode" and set the switch to "ON"
  5. Choose of the mode should be enabled in the "Phone", "Internet" and / or the "Messages" app
  6. You can add more apps by tapping the "+" button

Disabling Ultra Power Saving Mode:

  1. From the home screen, tap "Apps"
  2. Tap "Settings"
  3. Under "System", tap "Power saving"
  4. Tap "Ultra Power saving mode"
  5. Press "Menu" and then tap "Disable Ultra power saving mode"
  6. Tap "OK" to confirm

Lowering the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:

  1. Tap "Apps" while on a home screen
  2. Go to "Settings"
  3. Swipe to "Quick Settings" and then tap "Display"
  4. Tap "Brightness" and clear the "Automatic brightness" check box
  5. Drag the brightness button to the left in order to decrease the brightness level
  6. Tap "OK" and then go to "Screen timeout"
  7. Choose a lower timeout duration, like "15 seconds"

Disabling Wi-Fi, Hotspot, Bluetooth and GPS:

NOTE: it's highly recommended that you disable all connectivity features on your smartphone whenever they are not in use. Most connectivity options, especially GPS, can have a big negative impact on your phone's battery performance if left unchecked.

  1. From the home screen, tap "Apps"
  2. Tap "Settings"
  3. Go to "Network Connections"
  4. Tap "Tethering & Mobile Hotspot"
  5. Set the switch to "OFF"
  6. Return to the home screen and swipe the "Status" bar down
  7. Tap the "Location", "Bluetooth" and "Wi-Fi" tiles to disable these features

NOTE: a greyed out tile means that the feature is disabled

Changing App Sync Settings:

  1. From the home screen, tap "Apps"
  2. Access the "Settings" menu
  3. Scroll to "User and Backup" and then tap "Account"
  4. Access the "Accounts" tab
  5. Select an account type and then tap "Google"
  6. Adjust the available sync settings by tapping each category; by tapping your username or email address, and / or by marking and clearing check boxes

Disabling Background Data:

  1. From the home screen, tap "Apps"
  2. Go to "Settings"
  3. Swipe to "Network Connections"
  4. Tap "Data usage" and then press "Menu"
  5. Mark the check box associated with "Restrict background data"

Minimizing the Use of Third Party Apps:

NOTE: certain 3rd party applications can have a negative effect on your phone's battery performance even when the apps are not open. Certain applications can still run processes in the background, so it's recommended that you uninstall or disable all third party apps that you don't really use.

  1. While on a home screen, tap "Apps"
  2. Go to "Settings"
  3. Swipe to "Applications" and tap "Application manager"
  4. Access the "Downloaded" tab and select the desired app
  5. Tap "Disable" or touch "Uninstall" > "OK" to completely remove the app

Switching from 4G to 2G:

  1. Access the phone's "Settings" menu
  2. Swipe to "Network Connections"
  3. Tap "More networks" > "Mobile networks"
  4. Tap "Network mode" and then mark the "GSM only" check box
  5. To return to 4G connectivity, select either "WCDMA/GSM (auto connect)" or "LTE/WCDMA/GSM (auto connect)"

Keeping Your Phone up to Date:

NOTE: It's highly advised that you keep your smartphone up to date. New updates oftentimes include tweaks and potential fixes to the phone's battery life. Keep in mind that following the steps below while no update is available will have no effect on your phone's battery life.

  1. Tap "Apps" from the home screen
  2. Tap "Settings" and swipe to "System"
  3. Tap "About device" > "Software updates"
  4. Assuming that a new software version is available, follow the on-screen instructions to download and apply it
