Back Up Application Data:

  1. From the home screen, tap "Apps"
  2. Go to "Settings"
  3. Swipe to "User and Backup" and tap "Backup and reset"
  4. In order to back up your apps you need to be logged in with a Google account. If you need to add one, tap "Backup account" > "Add account" and follow the on-screen steps
  5. If necessary, place a check mark next to "Backup account" and "Backup my data"

Backing Up Contacts

Using a Samsung or Google Account:

  1. Tap "Contacts" while on the home screen
  2. Tap "Settings" and go to "Merge accounts"
  3. Choose to back up your contacts on a "Samsung" or "Google" account
  4. Tap "OK" to merge the contacts from your device with the account

Backing Up Contacts using the SD Card:

  1. Ensure that the SD card is inserted on your smartphone (visit this full guide to learn how you can manage the SD Card)
  2. Tap "Apps" while on the home screen
  3. Go to "Settings" and swipe to "Applications"
  4. Choose "Contacts" and press "Menu"
  5. Tap "Import / Export" and select "Export to SD Card"
  6. Before tapping "OK", make sure you remember the backup file's name for future use

Backing Up Media Files

Using the Smartphone:

  1. Make sure the SD card is properly inserted
  2. Open the apps drawer
  3. Go to "My Files" and swipe to "Local Storage"
  4. Tap "Device storage" and tap the "Menu" icon located in the upper-right area of the screen
  5. Tap "Select" and locate the media files you wish to back up. NOTE: Pictures captured with the "Camera" app should be found in the "DCIM" folder, while other items of interest are located in "Ringtones", "Downloads" etc.
  6. Mark the check boxes next to the files and folders you want to back up
  7. Press "Menu" and tap "Copy" > "SD card"
  8. Go to the desired backup folder and tap "Paste here"

Using a Windows Computer:

  1. Use the USB cable to connect your Galaxy S5 LTE-A to your computer
  2. From the home screen, swipe the "Status" bar down
  3. Tap "Connected as a media device" > "Media device (MTP)"
  4. In the AutoPlay window on the computer, click to "Open device to view files"
  5. Locate the media files you want to back up. NOTE: the "Phone" icon represents the internal memory, while the "Card" icon is associated with the SD card
  6. Copy the files you wish to back up, and paste them on the backup location on your computer
  7. Once the transfer is done, safely disconnect the SGS5 LTE-A from the computer

Using a Mac:

NOTE: Skip the first 3 steps if Samsung Kies is installed on your Mac already

  1. Open the Internet browser on your Mac
  2. Visit Kies and click to "Download for Mac OS"
  3. Follow any additional steps to complete the Kies installation process
  4. Connect the Galaxy S5 LTE-A to your computer via USB
  5. Swipe the "Status" bar down and tap "Connected as a media device"
  6. Mark the "Media device (MTP)" check box
  7. Open Kies on the Mac and click the "Back up / Restore" tab
  8. Access the "Backup" tab
  9. Place a check mark next to the type of files you wish to back up, such as "Photos", "Music" etc. NOTE: Alternatively, you can tap "Select all items"
  10. Click "Backup"
  11. After the process is done, eject the smartphone and safely disconnect it from the Mac
