Transfer Contacts via a Google Account:

NOTE: You can transfer the contacts stored on your Galaxy SIII by syncing them with your Google account, and re-syncing them with the Samsung Galaxy J1 as explained below:

  1. Sign in with your Google account on the Samsung Galaxy SIII
  2. From the home screen press "Menu"
  3. Tap "Settings"
  4. Access "My Accounts" and tap "Google"
  5. Tap your "email address" or "user name"
  6. Clear and mark the check box next to "Sync Contacts". Alternatively tap "Sync now"
  7. Register the same account on the Galaxy J1 and access the phone's "Settings" menu
  8. Under "User and Backup" tap "Accounts"
  9. Press "Menu" > "Sync all"

Via the "Contacts" App:

NOTE: You can transfer your contacts from the Galaxy SIII by exporting them from the "Contacts" app and sending the exported backup file to the Galaxy J1 via email or using a computer.

  1. Launch the "Contacts" app on the Galaxy SIII
  2. From the "Contacts" tab, press "Menu"
  3. Tap "Contacts to display" > "All contacts"
  4. Press "Menu" and tap "Import / Export"
  5. Tap "Export to SD card" and remember the backup file's name for future use. Tap "OK" when ready
  6. Launch the email app and compose a new email containing the exported vCard file as an attachment
  7. Send the email to your own email address
  8. Switch to the Galaxy J1 and open the email
  9. Download the VCF file on your phone
  10. Launch "Contacts" and press "Menu"
  11. Tap "Import / Export"
  12. Select "import from SD card" or "Import from storage", depending on the vCard file's download location
  13. If necessary, choose an account and follow any steps that may follow

NOTE: You can transfer the vCard file from the Galaxy SIII to your Galaxy J using a computer. Connect both smartphones via USB, manually transfer the file from one phone storage to the other, and import the file on the Galaxy J1 using the "Contacts" app

Via "Send Anywhere":

NOTE: Send Anywhere is a third party app that can be used to transfer contacts from one phone to another using a P2P connection.

  1. Visit the Google Play Store and install "Send Anywhere" on your Samsung devices
  2. Open the app on both smartphones
  3. On the Galaxy SIII, tap "Send" > "Contacts"
  4. Choose the contacts you want to transfer
  5. Tap "Send"
  6. Select the desired transfer method. You can tap "Receive" on the Galaxy J1 and enter the transfer code generated on the Galaxy SIII. Alternatively, tap "Generate QR Code" on the SIII and scan the code with the J1's camera to commence the transfer
