    Back Up Applications:

    1. From the home screen, tap "Apps"
    2. Go to "Settings" and swipe to "User and Backup"
    3. Tap "Backup and reset"
    4. In order to back up your apps, you have to be logged in to a Google account. If needed, tap "Backup account" > "Add account", then follow the on-screen steps to sign in with or create a Google account
    5. Check the boxes associated with "Backup my data" and "Backup account" if necessary

    Contacts Backup

    Back Up Contacts using a Google or Samsung Account:

    1. Tap "Contacts" while viewing a home screen
    2. Access the "Settings" menu
    3. Tap "Merge Accounts"
    4. Choose to back up the contacts on a "Google" or "Samsung" account
    5. Tap "OK" to merge the contacts with your account

    SD Card Backup:

    1. Ensure an SD card is installed on your phone
    2. Tap "Apps" from the home screen and go to "Settings"
    3. Swipe to "Applications" and tap "Contacts"
    4. Press "Menu" > "Import / Export"
    5. Tap "Export to SD card"
    6. Before tapping "OK", make sure you note the file name for future use (restore)

    Media File Backup

    Back Up Media on the SD Card:

    1. Tap "Apps" and open "My Files"
    2. Go to "Local Storage" > "Device storage"
    3. Tap the "Menu" icon > "Select"
    4. Locate the desired media files / folders
    5. Mark the check boxes next to the items you want to back up
    6. Tap "Menu" > "Copy" > "SD card"
    7. Locate the desired backup file on the SD card and tap "Paste here"

    Using a Windows PC:

    1. Use the USB cable to establish a connection between the Galaxy J1 and computer
    2. Drag the "Status" bar down
    3. Tap "Connected as a media device" and check the box next to "Media device (MTP)"
    4. In the "AutoPlay" window on your computer, click "Open device to view files"
    5. Locate the files you want to back up. The "Card" directory represents external storage. ("Phone" is internal memory).
    6. Copy the files you want to back up from your phone
    7. Transfer / paste the files in the desired backup location on your computer
    8. Once the transfer is done, safely disconnect the smartphone from the computer

    Back Up Media Files on a Mac:

    NOTE: If you already have Samsung Kies installed on the Mac computer, skip the first 2 steps

    1. Open the Internet browser on your Mac and visit Kies
    2. Click "Download for Mac OS" and follow the on-screen instructions to install Kies
    3. Connect your Samsung Galaxy J1 to your Mac via USB
    4. Swipe the "Status" bar down and tap "Connected as a media device"
    5. Tap "media device (MTP)"
    6. Open Kies on the Mac
    7. Access the "Back up / Restore" tab
    8. Click the "Backup" tab and mark the check box next to "Music", "Photos" or any other media file types you wish to back up. Alternatively you can tap "Select all items"
    9. Click "Backup"
    10. Once the transfer is done, eject the Galaxy J1's storage and safely disconnect the phone from the Mac
