Back Up Applications:

  1. Tap “Apps” on the home screen
  2. Go to “Settings”
  3. Swipe to “User and Backup” and tap “Backup and reset”
  4. To proceed you need to be logged in to a Google account. If necessary, tap “Backup account” > “Add account” and follow the on-screen prompts
  5. If necessary, mark the check boxes next to “Backup my data” and “Backup account”

Back Up Contacts on a Samsung or Google Account:

  1. Tap “Contacts” on the home screen
  2. Press “Menu”
  3. Tap “Move device contacts to”
  4. Select an account to back up your contacts to
  5. Tap “OK” to confirm

Back Up Media Files on a Windows PC:

  1. Connect the Galaxy Note 5 to your computer via USB
  2. Swipe the “Status” bar down and tap “Connected as a media device”
  3. Make sure “Media device (MTP)” is enabled
  4. From the AutoPlay window on the computer, click “Open device to view files”
  5. Locate the media files you want to back up and copy them
  6. Navigate to the desired backup location on your computer
  7. Paste the files
  8. When done, eject the phone storage from the system tray and safely disconnect the device

Back Up Media Files on a Mac Computer:

NOTE: Skip the first 3 steps if Samsung Kies is already installed on your Mac.

  1. Open the Internet browser on your Mac
  2. Visit Kies
  3. Click “Download for Mac OS” and follow the on-screen steps to install Kies on the Mac
  4. Connect the Note 5 to your Mac via USB
  5. If necessary, swipe the “Status” bar down and enable “Media device (MTP)”
  6. Launch Kies on the computer
  7. In Kies, click the “Back up / restore” tab
  8. Click the “Backup” tab
  9. Select the check box associated with “Music”, “Photo”, and other media file types you want to back up (optionally you can click “Select all items”)
  10. Click “Backup”
  11. Once done, drag the phone’s virtual drive to the trash can and safely disconnect the device from the Mac
