How-to: Transfer Contacts from an iPhone to the Samsung Galaxy J5

Using iTunes:

NOTE: If you have iTunes on a computer with Internet access you can use the app to sync the contacts on your iPhone with your Google account. Then you can sync the account data, including contacts, with the Galaxy J5.

1. Open iTunes on the PC
2. Connect the Galaxy J5 to your computer via USB
3. Once connected, click the iPhone in iTunes
4. From the summary page, access the “Info” tab
5. Enable “Sync Contacts With” and select “Google Contacts” from the drop-down menu
6. Sign in with your Google account, or alternatively click “Configure” and select an existing account if available
7. Click “Apply” and the sync should begin
8. Once done, register the same Google account on the Galaxy J5 and allow the account to sync contacts with your device

Using iCloud:

NOTE: If you’ve used the iCloud backup service on your iPhone before, the contacts stored on your device should already be backed up on your iCloud account. By accessing the account on a computer connected to the Internet, you can export the contacts for Android use.

1. Open the Internet browser on the computer
2. Head down to https://www.icloud.com/
3. Sign in with your iCloud account and click “Contacts”
4. Select the contacts you want to export and click “Settings”
5. Select “Export vCard”
6. Once the vCard file is downloaded on the computer, import it to “Google Contacts”. Alternatively you can skip this step and instead:
7. Connect the Galaxy J5 to your computer via USB, and transfer the vCard file to the phone storage. Then, open “Contacts”, tap “More” > “Settings” > “Import / Export contacts” and import the vCard file to your phonebook

Using “My Contacts Backup”:

NOTE: To transfer your contacts without using a computer, you can use third party apps instead. My Contacts Backup is an iOS app that can be used to back up contacts and transfer them via email.

1. Open the App Store and install “My Contacts Backup” on the iPhone
2. Launch the application and tap “Backup”
3. After the backup file is created, tap “Email”
4. Make sure the backup file is attached to the email, and send it to your own address
5. On the Galaxy J5, open the email and download the attached file
6. Import the file via the “Contacts” application

Using “Send Anywhere”:

NOTE: Last but not least, you can use Send Anywhere (third party app) on both smartphones to transfer contacts cross-platform over a P2P connection, without needing a computer.

1. Install “Send Anywhere” on the iPhone via the App Store
2. Install the same app on the Galaxy J5 from the Play Store
3. Open the app on both devices
4. Tap “Send” on the iPhone
5. Tap “Contacts” and select the contacts you want to share
6. Tap “Send” and choose a transfer method. You can tap “Generate QR Code” on the iPhone and scan the code with the Galaxy J5’s camera, or tap “Receive” on the Galaxy device and enter the transfer code generated on the iPhone
