Clear App Cache / Data:
NOTE: If one of your applications doesnt work as intended, crashes, freezes, or takes up too much storage, you might be able to fix these issues by clearing the apps cache / data.
WARNING! By clearing an apps data you will lose all personal information stored within the app, including profiles, login and credit card information, saved games, high scores etc. However you can avoid losing data by clearing only the apps cache.
- Tap Apps on the home screen
- Open Settings
- Scroll to Applications and tap Application manager
- Access the All or Downloaded tab
- Select the desired app
- Tap Clear cache
- If necessary, tap Clear data > OK
Wipe the Cache Partition:
NOTE: In case your phone doesnt work as intended or runs out of storage inexplicably, you might be able to fix these problems by clearing the apps cache partition. This can have a similar effect as a factory reset without losing any of your personal data. To wipe the cache partition:
- First, turn off the phone
- Next, press and hold Home, Volume Up and Power at the same time
- Once the screen powers up, release all buttons
- In the Android System Recovery menu, press Volume down repeatedly to highlight wipe cache partition
- Press Power to select the highlighted option
- After the cache is wiped, Reboot system now should be highlighted
- Press Power and wait for the phone to reboot
NOTE: If wiping the cache partition didnt help, you can visit this thread for instructions on master resetting the Samsung Galaxy J7 (2016) instead.
Reboot in Safe Mode and Uninstalling an App:
NOTE: In case you have installed a third party app that causes issues and prevents you from removing it, you should be able to uninstall the app from within Safe Mode. In Safe Mode, all third party apps are disabled.
- Turn off the phone
- Press and hold Power
- At the Samsung logo, release Power and immediately press and hold Volume down instead
- After the phone finishes rebooting, a Safe Mode label should be shown in the lower area of the screen
- To remove an app, first go to Settings
- Next, scroll to Device and tap Applications
- Tap Application manager
- Go to Downloaded and select the desired app
- Tap Uninstall twice to uninstall the app
- After the application has been removed, press and hold Power and restart your phone in normal mode
