WARNING! When you factory reset your phone, all the personal data stored on the devices internal memory will be deleted, including contacts, apps, media files, ringtones, downloaded content etc. In addition, all settings will be restored to factory values. However, data stored on the SIM and SD cards will not be affected.
NOTE: Before you factory reset the phone, you can visit this thread for a guide on how to back up and restore data on the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge.
Factory Reset via Settings:
- Open the apps drawer
- Launch Settings
- Under Personal, tap Backup and reset
- Optionally, you can enable or disable Back up my data and Restore
- Tap Factory data reset
- Tap Reset device
- If your phone is lock screen-protected, enter your PIN / password and tap Continue
- Tap Delete all to confirm
Factory Reset via Recovery (Hardware Buttons):
NOTE: If your phone freezes, crashes, or otherwise doesnt allow you to reset it via Settings, you can try resetting the phone from the Recovery menu, which can be accessed by performing a combination of button presses.
- If necessary, turn off the phone
- Then, press and hold Power, Home and Volume Up at the same time
- When the Samsung logo appears, release Power
- At the Android logo, release Home and Volume Up too
- Wait for the Recovery menu to be displayed (this may take up to 60 seconds)
- Press Volume down repeatedly in the Recovery menu to navigate to and highlight Wipe data / factory reset
- Press Power to confirm the highlighted option
- Press Volume down to highlight Yes delete all user data and press Power to select the option
- After the phone completes the factory reset Reboot system now should be highlighted
- Press Power one last time to confirm and restart your device
Check for OS Updates:
NOTE: After a fresh factory reset, its recommended to check if new software updates are available for download. To do this:
- Tap Apps on the home screen
- Access Settings
- Scroll down to, and tap About device
- Verify if a new software update is available and if so, follow the on-screen prompts to download and apply it
