WARNING! When you master reset your phone, all data located on the devices internal memory will be deleted. This includes downloaded content, media files and ringtones, contacts, applications etc. In addition, all settings will be restored to factory values.
NOTE: Before master resetting your phone, you can visit this thread for instructions on how to back up data. You can also follow the instructions in this thread to restore your data.
Factory Reset via Settings:
- Tap Apps on the home screen
- Open Settings
- Scroll to Personal
- Tap Backup and reset
- Optionally, turn Back up my data and Restore On or Off
- Tap Factory data reset
- Tap Reset device
- If your phone is protected by a locks screen, enter your PIN / password etc. to proceed
- Tap Continue > Delete all to confirm
Factory Reset via Recovery:
NOTE: If you are unable to master reset your phone via settings using the method above, you can instead try resetting it via Android System Recovery. The Recovery menu can be accessed by performing a combination of button presses.
- Turn off the phone
- Press and hold Volume Up and Home simultaneously
- Next, press and hold Power as well
- When the Samsung logo appears, release Power
- At the Android logo, release Home and Volume Up too
- Once you gain access to the Android System Recovery menu, navigate it using Volume down
- Highlight Wipe data / factory reset
- Press Power to select the highlighted option
- Press Volume down and highlight Yes delete all user data
- Press Power to confirm and wait for your device to reset
- Once done, Reboot system now should be highlighted
- Press Power to restart your device
Check for OS Updates:
NOTE: Once you factory reset your device, its recommended to verify if new software updates are available for download. To do this:
- Open the apps drawer
- Launch Settings
- Scroll to System and tap About device
- Verify if a new update is available, and if applicable, follow the on-screen prompts to download and install (NOTE: this process may require you to reboot your phone)
