Enable Battery Saving Mode:
- Open the apps drawer
- Go to Settings
- Scroll to System and tap Battery
- Turn Battery saving mode ON
- Tap Start power saving and select a battery percentage for the mode to enable automatically
Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:
- Go to Settings
- Scroll to Device
- Tap Display and turn Automatic brightness OFF
- Drag the brightness slider towards the left side of the screen to decrease brightness
- Return to Display and tap Screen timeout
- Select a lower value such as 15 seconds
Disable Unused Connectivity Features and Switch to 2G:
NOTE: By disabling the phones connectivity features, including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and Hotspot when they are not in use, you can improve battery life in the long run. Additionally, to conserve battery life until the next recharge you can temporarily switch to 2G networks.
- Go to Settings
- Access Connections and disable the desired connectivity options
- Tap Tethering & mobile hotspot and set the option OFF
- To switch to 2G networks, scroll to Connections
- Then tap More connection settings
- Tap Mobile networks > Network mode
- Enable GSM only
Minimize Third Party App Usage:
NOTE: Certain third party applications perform regular background processes, and as such they can potentially affect battery life even when they are not in use. Thus, by disabling or uninstalling unused third party apps from your phone, you might improve battery life in the long run.
- Tap Apps on the home screen
- Access Settings
- Scroll to Device
- Tap Applications > Application manager
- Go to the Downloaded tab and select the desired app
- Tap Disable / Force Stop to disable the app
- To remove the app, tap Uninstall > OK
Change Settings to Reduce Sync:
NOTE: By changing your accounts settings to reduce sync, you can improve battery life.
- Open the apps drawer
- Go to Settings
- Tap Accounts under Personal
- Select an account type and the desired account
- Clear the check boxes next to the sync options you want to disable
- Tap Menu > Sync now to confirm
Disable Background Data:
- Launch Settings
- Under Connections, tap Data usage
- Tap More > Restrict background data
- Tap OK to confirm
Keep the Software Updated:
NOTE: Some software updates can improve battery life, and thus its recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To check for OS updates:
- Open Settings
- Scroll to System and tap About device
- Follow the on-screen instructions to download and install any available updates
