Clear App Cache / Data:

NOTE: If one of your apps freezes, crashes, takes up too much storage inexplicably or otherwise doesn’t work as intended, you can try fixing these issues by clearing the app’s cache / data.

WARNING! When you clear the application’s data, you will delete all personal data stored within the application, including credit card information and login information, user profiles, high scores, game save files etc. To avoid losing personal data, clear ONLY the application’s cache.

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Go to “Settings”
  3. Scroll to “Applications” and tap “Application manager”
  4. Go to the “Downloaded” or “All” and select the desired app
  5. Tap “Clear cache”
  6. If clearing the cache didn’t help, tap “Clear data” > “OK” to confirm

Clear the Phone’s Cache Partition:

NOTE: If your phone crashes, freezes, or runs out of storage inexplicably and you’re considering factory resetting it, alternatively you can try and solve these issues by clearing the phone’s cache partition. This can yield results similar to a factory reset without losing any personal data.

  1. Turn off the phone if necessary
  2. Press and hold “Power”, “Home” and “Volume Up” simultaneously
  3. At the “Samsung” logo, release “Power”
  4. When the “Android” logo appears, release “Home” and “Volume Up”
  5. Once in the Android Recovery menu, press “Volume down” to navigate the menu and highlight “wipe cache partition”
  6. Press “Power” to select the highlighted option
  7. After the cache is cleared, highlight “Reboot system now” and press “Power”

NOTE: In case clearing the cache partition didn’t help, you can visit this thread for instructions on how to factory reset your device.

Reboot in Safe Mode to Uninstall an Application:

NOTE: In case you have installed a third party application that causes issues and prevents you from removing it from the phone, you can uninstall the app from within Safe Mode. In this mode, all third party apps are disabled.

  1. Turn the phone OFF if necessary
  2. Press and hold “Power”
  3. When the “Samsung” logo appears, release “Power” and immediately press and hold “Volume down” instead
  4. Once the phone finishes rebooting, release “Volume down” too. NOTE: a “Safe Mode” watermark should be visible in the lower-left corner of the screen
  5. Next, open “Settings” and scroll to “Device”
  6. Tap “Applications” > “Application manager”
  7. Go to “Downloaded” and select the desired app
  8. Tap “Uninstall” twice to confirm
  9. Once the app has been removed, exit Safe Mode by rebooting your device as you normally would
