Clear App Cache / Data:
NOTE: If one of your apps freezes, crashes, takes up too much storage inexplicably or otherwise doesnt work as intended, you can try fixing these issues by clearing the apps cache / data.
WARNING! When you clear the applications data, you will delete all personal data stored within the application, including credit card information and login information, user profiles, high scores, game save files etc. To avoid losing personal data, clear ONLY the applications cache.
- Open the apps drawer
- Go to Settings
- Scroll to Applications and tap Application manager
- Go to the Downloaded or All and select the desired app
- Tap Clear cache
- If clearing the cache didnt help, tap Clear data > OK to confirm
Clear the Phones Cache Partition:
NOTE: If your phone crashes, freezes, or runs out of storage inexplicably and youre considering factory resetting it, alternatively you can try and solve these issues by clearing the phones cache partition. This can yield results similar to a factory reset without losing any personal data.
- Turn off the phone if necessary
- Press and hold Power, Home and Volume Up simultaneously
- At the Samsung logo, release Power
- When the Android logo appears, release Home and Volume Up
- Once in the Android Recovery menu, press Volume down to navigate the menu and highlight wipe cache partition
- Press Power to select the highlighted option
- After the cache is cleared, highlight Reboot system now and press Power
NOTE: In case clearing the cache partition didnt help, you can visit this thread for instructions on how to factory reset your device.
Reboot in Safe Mode to Uninstall an Application:
NOTE: In case you have installed a third party application that causes issues and prevents you from removing it from the phone, you can uninstall the app from within Safe Mode. In this mode, all third party apps are disabled.
- Turn the phone OFF if necessary
- Press and hold Power
- When the Samsung logo appears, release Power and immediately press and hold Volume down instead
- Once the phone finishes rebooting, release Volume down too. NOTE: a Safe Mode watermark should be visible in the lower-left corner of the screen
- Next, open Settings and scroll to Device
- Tap Applications > Application manager
- Go to Downloaded and select the desired app
- Tap Uninstall twice to confirm
- Once the app has been removed, exit Safe Mode by rebooting your device as you normally would
