Clear App Cache / Data:
NOTE: If one of your apps doesnt work as intended, it crashes, freezes, takes up too much storage inexplicably or otherwise doesnt work as it should, you can try fixing these issues by clearing the apps cache / data.
WARNING! When you clear an apps data, all your personal data stored within the app will be deleted, including login and credit card information, save files, high scores, user profiles etc. To avoid losing personal app data, clear ONLY the apps cache.
- Tap Apps on the home screen
- Access Settings
- Scroll to Applications and go to Application manager
- Access Downloaded or All
- Tap the desired application
- Tap Clear cache. If clearing the cache didnt help, tap Clear data > OK to confirm (check WARNING above)
Clear the Phones Cache Partition:
NOTE: In case your phone freezes, crashes, runs out of storage inexplicably or otherwise doesnt work as intended, alternatively you can try fixing these problems by clearing the phones cache partition. This can yield similar results to a factory reset without losing personal data on the phones internal memory.
- Turn the phone OFF if necessary
- Press and hold Power, Home and Volume Up at the same time
- At the Samsung screen, release Power
- At the Android screen, release Home and Volume Up
- Once you gain access to the Android Recovery menu, press Volume down repeatedly to navigate to and highlight wipe cache partition
- Press Power to select the highlighted option
- Once the cache is cleared, highlight Reboot system now and press Power
NOTE: If clearing the phones cache partition didnt help, you can visit this thread for instructions on how to factory reset the device.
Reboot to Safe Mode and Uninstall an App:
NOTE: If you have installed a third party app that causes problems and prevents you from uninstalling it, you should be able to remove the app from the phone while in Safe Mode. In this mode, all third party apps are disabled.
- Turn the phone OFF if necessary
- Press and hold Power
- At the Samsung screen, release Power and immediately press and hold Volume down instead
- Once the phone reboots, release Volume down. NOTE: a Safe Mode watermark should be visible in the lower-left corner of the home screen
- Next, to remove an app, first open Settings
- Then scroll to Device and tap Applications
- Tap Application manager
- Go to Downloaded
- Select the desired application and tap Uninstall two times to confirm
- After the app has been removed, you can exit Safe Mode by rebooting your device as you would do normally. Press and hold Power
