Clear App Cache/Data:
NOTE: If one of your apps freezes, crashes, takes up too much storage inexplicably or otherwise doesnt work as intended, you can try fixing these problems by clearing the apps cache/data.
WARNING! When you clear an apps data, all your personal data stored within the app, including credit card and login information, save files, user profiles, settings etc. will be deleted. To avoid losing personal app data, clear ONLY the apps cache.
- Open the apps drawer
- Go to Settings
- Scroll to Device and tap Applications
- Access Application Manager
- Swipe to All or Downloaded
- Select the desired app and tap Clear cache
- If clearing the apps cache didnt help, tap Clear data > OK to confirm (check WARNING above)
Wipe the Cache Partition:
NOTE: In case your phone freezes, crashes, runs out of storage inexplicably or otherwise doesnt work as intended and youre considering factory resetting it, alternatively you can try fixing the problems by clearing the phones cache partition. This can yield results similar to a factory reset without losing any personal data stored on the phones internal memory.
- Turn the phone OFF if necessary
- Press and hold Power, Home and Volume Up at the same time
- Release Power at the Samsung logo
- At the Android logo, release Home and Volume Up
- Once in the Android System Recovery menu, press Volume down repeatedly to highlight wipe cache partition
- Press Power to confirm the selection
- Once the cache partition is cleared, highlight Reboot system now and press Power to confirm
NOTE: If clearing the cache partition didnt help, you can visit this thread for a guide on how to factory reset the Samsung device.
Uninstall an Application:
NOTE: In case you have installed a third party application that causes issues and prevents you from removing it, you should be able to uninstall the app from within Safe Mode. In this mode, all third party applications are disabled by default. To reboot into Safe Mode:
- Make sure the phone is powered OFF
- Press and hold Power
- At the Samsung logo, release Power and quickly press and hold Volume down instead
- After the phone finishes rebooting, release Volume down too. NOTE: a Safe Mode label should be visible in the lower-left area of the home screen
- Open the apps drawer and launch Settings
- Scroll to Device and tap Application
- Go to Application manager
- Access Downloaded
- Select the desired app and tap Uninstall two times to confirm and remove the application
- Once the app has been removed, you can exit Safe Mode by rebooting your device as you would do normally
