Clear App Cache/Data:

NOTE: If one of your apps freezes, crashes, takes up too much storage inexplicably or otherwise doesn’t work as intended, you can try fixing these problems by clearing the app’s cache/data.

WARNING! When you clear an app’s data, all your personal data stored within the app, including credit card and login information, save files, user profiles, settings etc. will be deleted. To avoid losing personal app data, clear ONLY the app’s cache.

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Go to “Settings”
  3. Scroll to “Device” and tap “Applications”
  4. Access “Application Manager”
  5. Swipe to “All” or “Downloaded”
  6. Select the desired app and tap “Clear cache”
  7. If clearing the app’s cache didn’t help, tap “Clear data” > “OK” to confirm (check WARNING above)

Wipe the Cache Partition:

NOTE: In case your phone freezes, crashes, runs out of storage inexplicably or otherwise doesn’t work as intended and you’re considering factory resetting it, alternatively you can try fixing the problems by clearing the phone’s cache partition. This can yield results similar to a factory reset without losing any personal data stored on the phone’s internal memory.

  1. Turn the phone OFF if necessary
  2. Press and hold “Power”, “Home” and “Volume Up” at the same time
  3. Release “Power” at the “Samsung” logo
  4. At the “Android” logo, release “Home” and “Volume Up”
  5. Once in the Android System Recovery menu, press “Volume down” repeatedly to highlight “wipe cache partition”
  6. Press “Power” to confirm the selection
  7. Once the cache partition is cleared, highlight “Reboot system now” and press “Power” to confirm

Uninstall an Application:

NOTE: In case you have installed a third party application that causes issues and prevents you from removing it, you should be able to uninstall the app from within Safe Mode. In this mode, all third party applications are disabled by default. To reboot into Safe Mode:

  1. Make sure the phone is powered OFF
  2. Press and hold “Power”
  3. At the “Samsung” logo, release “Power” and quickly press and hold “Volume down” instead
  4. After the phone finishes rebooting, release “Volume down” too. NOTE: a “Safe Mode” label should be visible in the lower-left area of the home screen
  5. Open the apps drawer and launch “Settings”
  6. Scroll to “Device” and tap “Application”
  7. Go to “Application manager”
  8. Access “Downloaded”
  9. Select the desired app and tap “Uninstall” two times to confirm and remove the application
  10. Once the app has been removed, you can exit Safe Mode by rebooting your device as you would do normally
