Clear App Cache/Data:

NOTE: In case one of your applications freezes, crashes, takes up too much storage inexplicably or otherwise doesn’t work as intended, you can try fixing these issues by clearing the app’s cache/data.

WARNING! Clearing an app’s data will result in the deletion of all your personal data stored within the app, including login and credit card information, high scores, settings, user profiles etc. To avoid losing personal app data, clear ONLY the app’s cache.

  1. Launch “Settings”
  2. Scroll to and tap “Applications”
  3. Select the desired app and go to “Storage”
  4. Tap “Clear cache”
  5. If clearing the cache didn’t help, tap “Clear data” > “OK” to confirm

Clear the Cache Partition:

NOTE: In case your phone freezes, crashes, runs out of storage inexplicably or otherwise doesn’t work as intended, alternatively you can try fixing these problems by clearing the phone’s cache partition. This can give similar results to a factory reset without losing any personal data.

  1. Ensure the phone is powered OFF
  2. Then, press and hold “Home” and “Volume Up” at the same time, and immediately press and hold “Power” as well
  3. When the device logo appears, release “Power”
  4. Release “Home” and “Volume Up” at the “Android” screen
  5. Once in Android Recovery, press “volume down” repeatedly to navigate to and highlight “wipe cache partition”
  6. Press “Power” to select the highlighted option
  7. Press “Volume down” to highlight “Yes” and then press “Power” to confirm
  8. Once the cache partition is cleared, highlight “Reboot system now” and press “Power” to confirm

NOTE: In case clearing the cache partition didn’t solve the issues, you can check this thread for a guide on how to factory reset the phone instead.

Reboot to Safe Mode and Uninstall an App:

NOTE: If you have installed a third party app that causes issues and prevents you from removing it, you should be able to uninstall the app from within Safe Mode. In this mode, all third party apps are disabled by default.

  1. If necessary, turn the phone OFF
  2. Press and hold “Power” past the device name screen
  3. At the “Samsung” logo, release “Power” and immediately press and hold “Volume down” instead
  4. Wait for the phone to reboot and then release the volume key. NOTE: a “Safe Mode” label should be shown in the lower-left area of the home screen
  5. To uninstall an app, first access “Settings”
  6. Then tap “Applications” and select the desired app
  7. Tap “Uninstall” two times to confirm
  8. To exit Safe Mode, simply power-cycle your phone as you would normally do. Press and hold “Power” on the home screen and then tap “Restart”/“Power OFF”
