Clear App Cache/Data:
NOTE: In case one of your applications doesnt work as intended, crashes, freezes, or takes up too much storage inexplicably, you can try fixing these issues by clearing the apps cache and/or data.
WARNING! When you clear an apps data, all your personal data stored within the app will be deleted, including settings, user profiles, save files, high scores, credit card and login information etc. To avoid losing personal app data, clear ONLY the apps cache.
- Open the apps drawer and launch Settings
- Tap Apps and select the desired application
- Access Storage
- Tap Clear cache to clear the apps cache
- If clearing the cache didnt help, tap Clear data (check WARNING above)
Wipe the Cache Partition:
NOTE: If your phone crashes, freezes, runs out of storage inexplicable or otherwise doesnt work as intended and youre considering factory resetting it, alternatively you can try fixing these issues by clearing the phones cache partition. This can lead to results similar to a factory reset, without losing any personal data on the device.
- First make sure the phone is powered off
- Then, press and hold Home and Volume Up at the same time, then press Power as well
- At the Android logo, release all buttons and wait up to 1 minute for the Android System Recovery screen
- Once in Recovery, press volume down repeatedly to highlight wipe data / factory reset
- Press Power to select the highlighted option
- Press volume down to highlight wipe cache partition
- Press Power
- Next, highlight Yes using Volume down and press Power again
- Once the cache is cleared, highlight Reboot system now and press Power one last time to confirm
NOTE: If clearing the cache partition didnt solve the issues, you can check this thread for instructions on how to factory reset the device instead.
Reboot to Safe Mode and Remove an App:
NOTE: If you have installed a third party application that causes issues and prevents you from removing it, you can try uninstalling the app from Safe Mode. In this mode, all third party apps are disabled.
- Turn the phone Off if necessary
- Press and hold Power past the model name screen
- At the Samsung logo, release Power and immediately press and hold Volume down instead
- Keep Volume down pressed until the device finishes rebooting. Once done, you should see a Safe Mode watermark in the lower area of the home screen
- To remove an app, launch Settings and go to Apps
- Select the desired app and tap Uninstall two times
- To exit Safe Mode, press and hold Power and tap Restart
