Clear App Cache/Data:
NOTE: If one of your applications doesnt work as intended, freezes, crashes or takes up too much storage inexplicably, you can try fixing these problems by clearing the apps cache and/or data.
WARNING! When you clear an apps data, all your personal data stored within the app will be deleted. This includes settings, save files, high scores, user profiles, credit card and login information etc. To avoid losing personal app data, clear ONLY the apps cache.
- Open the apps drawer
- Launch Settings
- Tap Apps
- Select the desired app
- Go to Storage
- Tap Clear cache to clear the apps cache
- If clearing the apps cache didnt help, tap Clear data (check WARNING above)
Wipe the Cache Partition:
NOTE: In case your phone crashes, freezes, runs out of storage inexplicably or otherwise doesnt work as intended and youre considering factory resetting it, alternatively you can try solving these issues by wiping the phones cache partition. This can have similar results to a factory reset without losing any personal data.
- Turn the phone Off if necessary
- Next, press and hold Volume Up and Home at the same time, then press Power
- At the Android logo, release all buttons and wait up to 1 minute for the Recovery screen
- Once in Recovery, press Volume down repeatedly to highlight Wipe data / factory reset
- Press Power to select the highlighted option
- Press Volume down to highlight wipe cache partition
- Press Power
- Highlight Yes and press Power again to confirm
- After the cache partition is wiped, highlight Reboot system now and press Power
NOTE: If clearing the cache partition didnt solve the issues, you can check this thread for a guide on how to factory reset the device instead.
Reboot to Safe Mode and Remove an App:
NOTE: In case you have installed a third party app that causes problems and prevents you from removing it, you can try uninstalling the app from Safe Mode. In this mode, all third party apps are disabled.
- If necessary, turn the phone Off
- Press and hold Power past the model screen
- When the Samsung logo appears, release Power and immediately press and hold Volume down instead
- Wait for the phone to reboot and release the volume key. NOTE: once the phone reboots, it should display a Safe Mode label in the lower area of the home screen
- To remove an app, first open Settings
- Next go to Apps and select the desired application
- Tap Uninstall to confirm
- To exit Safe Mode, press and hold Power and tap Restart
