NOTE: Before you factory reset your device, you should visit this thread for a guide on how to back up data, and this thread for instructions on restoring data.
Soft Reset Using Hardware Keys:
NOTE: A soft reset will simulate battery removal. This can be useful when the phone is unresponsive, and by soft resetting the device you will not lose any data.
- Press and hold Power and Volume down at the same time
- Keep the buttons pressed until the phone reboots (up to 45 seconds)
Hard Reset
NOTE: Hard resetting your device will delete all user data located on the phones internal memory, including media files, contacts, downloaded content, ringtones, apps etc. In addition, all settings will be restored to factory values.
Hard Reset via Settings:
- Open the apps drawer
- Launch Settings
- Access Cloud and accounts
- Tap Backup and restore and optionally, enable or disable Back up my data and Restore
- Return to Settings
- Access General Management
- Tap Reset > Factory data reset > Reset device
- In case your device is protected by a PIN / password, enter it and tap Continue
- Tap Delete all to confirm
Hard Reset via Hardware Buttons:
NOTE: In case your phone freezes, crashes, is unresponsive or otherwise prevents you from resetting it via settings, alternatively you can try resetting the device using hardware keys.
- First ensure the phone is powered off
- Then, press and hold Home and Volume UP at the same time, the press Power as well
- At the Android logo, release all buttons and wait for up to 1 minute to gain access to Android Recovery
- Once in Recovery, press Volume down repeatedly to navigate to and highlight Wipe data / factory reset
- Press Power and select the highlighted option
- Press Volume down to highlight Yes delete all user data
- Press Power to confirm
- Wait for the phone to reset. After the process is complete, highlight Reboot system now and press Power to confirm
Reset Network Settings:
NOTE: By resetting network settings, all connection data will be deleted, including Bluetooth and Wi-Fi networks. Furthermore, data restrictive settings, network selection mode, and background data sync settings will be restored to default.
- Open the apps drawer and launch General Management
- Tap Reset > Reset network settings
- Tap Reset settings
- If necessary, enter your PIN / password to proceed
- When ready, tap Reset settings to confirm
