Back Up App Data:

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Launch “Settings”
  3. Tap “Cloud and accounts” > “Backup & reset”
  4. Enable “Back up my data” to back up app data, passwords, and settings to your Google account
  5. Enable “Automatic Restore” to allow app data, settings, and passwords to be automatically restored upon reinstalling apps or when signing in with your backup account

Back Up Contacts on a Gmail/Samsung Account:

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Go to “Settings”
  3. Tap “Cloud and accounts” and select the desired account
  4. Ensure “Contacts” is checked and tap “More” > “Sync now”

NOTE: You can restore contacts by syncing them with your device the next time you sign in with the backup account

Back Up Contacts to SD Card:

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Launch “Contacts”
  3. Tap “Menu” > “Settings”
  4. Tap “Contacts to display” > “All contacts”
  5. Select “Import/Export contacts”
  6. Tap “Import to SD card” and optionally, enter the desired name for the backup file
  7. Tap “OK”

Restore Contacts From SD Card:

  1. Launch “Contacts”
  2. Tap “Menu” > “Settings”
  3. If necessary, tap “Contacts to display” > “All contacts”
  4. Tap “Import / Export contacts” > “Import from SD card”
  5. If necessary, select the desired backup and tap “OK” to confirm

Back Up Media Files:

  1. Launch “My Files”
  2. Go to “My Device”
  3. Tap “Menu” > “Share”
  4. Select the media files you want to back up and tap “Share”
  5. Select the desired location to share the files

Restore Media Files:

  1. Open “My Files”
  2. Tap “SD Card”
  3. Tap “Menu” > “Edit” and tick the boxes associated with the media files you wish to restore
  4. Tap “Menu” > “Move”
  5. Go to “My device” and tap “Move here”, or:
  6. To restore the media files in a different location, tap the folder name or “Create folder” > “Move here”

Back Up Media Files on a PC or Mac:

  1. Open the Internet browser on the computer
  2. Visit Samsung Smart Switch?
  3. Download and install Samsung Smart Switch on your computer
  4. Connect the Samsung device to your computer via USB and enable “File Transfer” / “Media device” when prompted or from the “Notification” area
  5. If necessary, allow your computer to install any required drivers
  6. Open Samsung Smart Switch and allow it to connect
  7. Launch the File Explorer/File Finder on the computer and locate the media files on the phone
  8. Copy and transfer the files in the desired backup location on the computer
  9. Once the transfer is done, eject the phone storage via system tray (PC) or by dragging and dropping the virtual drive from the desktop and into the “trash can” (Mac)

Restore Media Files from a Computer:

NOTE: Skip the first 2 steps if Samsung Smart Switch is already installed on your computer.

  1. Open the Internet browser on the computer and visit Samsung Smart Switch?
  2. Download and install Smart Switch on the computer
  3. Connect the Samsung device to your computer via USB
  4. Enable “Media deice” / “File Transfer” when prompted or from the “Notification” area
  5. On the computer, launch the File Explorer / File Finder
  6. Locate and copy the media file backups
  7. Transfer the files on the phone storage, preferably in the “Media” directory
  8. After the transfer is done, eject the phone storage and safely disconnect the device from the USB port
