Back Up App Data:
- Open the apps drawer
- Launch Settings
- Tap Cloud and accounts > Backup & reset
- Enable Back up my data to back up app data, passwords, and settings to your Google account
- Enable Automatic Restore to allow app data, settings, and passwords to be automatically restored upon reinstalling apps or when signing in with your backup account
Back Up Contacts on a Gmail/Samsung Account:
- Open the apps drawer
- Go to Settings
- Tap Cloud and accounts and select the desired account
- Ensure Contacts is checked and tap More > Sync now
NOTE: You can restore contacts by syncing them with your device the next time you sign in with the backup account
Back Up Contacts to SD Card:
- Open the apps drawer
- Launch Contacts
- Tap Menu > Settings
- Tap Contacts to display > All contacts
- Select Import/Export contacts
- Tap Import to SD card and optionally, enter the desired name for the backup file
- Tap OK
Restore Contacts From SD Card:
- Launch Contacts
- Tap Menu > Settings
- If necessary, tap Contacts to display > All contacts
- Tap Import / Export contacts > Import from SD card
- If necessary, select the desired backup and tap OK to confirm
Back Up Media Files:
- Launch My Files
- Go to My Device
- Tap Menu > Share
- Select the media files you want to back up and tap Share
- Select the desired location to share the files
Restore Media Files:
- Open My Files
- Tap SD Card
- Tap Menu > Edit and tick the boxes associated with the media files you wish to restore
- Tap Menu > Move
- Go to My device and tap Move here, or:
- To restore the media files in a different location, tap the folder name or Create folder > Move here
Back Up Media Files on a PC or Mac:
- Open the Internet browser on the computer
- Visit Samsung Smart Switch?
- Download and install Samsung Smart Switch on your computer
- Connect the Samsung device to your computer via USB and enable File Transfer / Media device when prompted or from the Notification area
- If necessary, allow your computer to install any required drivers
- Open Samsung Smart Switch and allow it to connect
- Launch the File Explorer/File Finder on the computer and locate the media files on the phone
- Copy and transfer the files in the desired backup location on the computer
- Once the transfer is done, eject the phone storage via system tray (PC) or by dragging and dropping the virtual drive from the desktop and into the trash can (Mac)
Restore Media Files from a Computer:
NOTE: Skip the first 2 steps if Samsung Smart Switch is already installed on your computer.
- Open the Internet browser on the computer and visit Samsung Smart Switch?
- Download and install Smart Switch on the computer
- Connect the Samsung device to your computer via USB
- Enable Media deice / File Transfer when prompted or from the Notification area
- On the computer, launch the File Explorer / File Finder
- Locate and copy the media file backups
- Transfer the files on the phone storage, preferably in the Media directory
- After the transfer is done, eject the phone storage and safely disconnect the device from the USB port
