Back up App Data:
- Launch Settings
- Go to Cloud and accounts
- Tap Backup & reset
- Enable Back up my data to back up app data, passwords, and settings to your Google account
- Enable Automatic Restore to allow app data, settings, and passwords to be restored automatically when reinstalling apps or signing in with your backup account
Back Up Contacts on a Gmail/Samsung Account:
- Open the apps drawer
- Launch Settings
- Tap Cloud and accounts
- Select the desired account and make sure Contacts is checked
- Tap More > Sync Now
NOTE: You can restore contacts by syncing them with your device the next time you sign in with your backup account.
Back Up Contacts to SD Card:
- Open Contacts
- Tap Menu
- Go to Settings
- Tap Contacts to display > All contacts
- Select Import/Export contacts
- Tap Import to SD Card and optionally, enter the desired name for the backup file
- Tap OK to confirm
Restore Contacts from SD Storage:
- Open Contacts
- Tap Menu
- Access Settings
- If necessary, tap Contacts to display > All contacts
- Tap Import / Export contacts > Import from SD Card
- If necessary, select the backup file you want to restore
- Tap OK to confirm
Back Up Media Files:
- Open My Files
- Access My Device and tap Menu
- Tap Share and select the media files you want to back up
- Tap Share again and select the desired location for sharing the files
Restore Media Files:
- Launch My Files
- Tap SD Card > Menu
- Tap Edit and tick the boxes associated with the media files you want to restore
- Tap Menu > Move
- Access My device and tap Move here
- Alternatively, to restore the media files in a different location, tap the folder name or Create folder > Move here
Back Up Media Files on a PC or Mac:
- Launch the Internet browser on the computer
- Visit Samsung Smart Switch?
- Download and install Samsung Smart Switch on the computer
- Connect the Samsung phone to your computer via USB and enable File Transfer / Media device
- If necessary, install the required USB drivers on the computer
- When ready, launch Samsung Smart Switch
- Open the File Explorer/File Finder on the computer and locate the media files on the phone
- Copy and paste the files in the desired backup location on the computer
- After the transfer is complete, eject the phone storage via system tray (PC) or by dragging the virtual from the desktop (Mac) and dropping it into the trash can
Restore Media Files from a Computer:
NOTE: Skip the first 3 steps if Samsung Smart Switch is already installed on your computer.
- Launch the Internet browser on the computer
- Visit Samsung Smart Switch?
- Download and install Smart Switch on the computer
- Connect the Samsung phone to your computer via USB
- Enable File Transfer / Media device when prompted or from the Notification area
- Launch the File Explorer/File Finder on the computer
- Locate and copy the media file backups
- Paste the backup files on the phone storage, preferably in the Media directory
- Once the transfer is complete, eject the phone storage via system tray and safely disconnect the phone from the USB port
