Clear App Cache and Data:
NOTE: If one of your apps doesnt work as intended, freezes, crashes, or takes up too much storage inexplicably, you can try fixing these issues by clearing the apps cache and/or data.
WARNING! When you clear an apps data, all your personal app data stored within the app will be deleted. This includes login and credit card information, settings, save files, high scores, user files etc. To avoid losing personal app data, clear ONLY the apps cache.
- Open the apps drawer
- Launch Settings
- Tap Apps
- Select the desired app and tap Storage
- Tap Clear cache to clear the apps cache
- If clearing the apps cache didnt help, tap Clear data (check WARNING above)
Wipe the Cache Partition:
NOTE: In case your phone crashes, freezes, runs out of storage inexplicably or otherwise doesnt work as intended and youre considering factory resetting it, you can try fixing these problems by clearing the phones cache partition. This can yield results similar to a factory reset without losing any personal data store don the phones internal memory.
- First turn off the phone
- Press and hold Home and Volume Up at the same time, then press and hold Power
- At the Android logo, release all buttons and wait 30-60 seconds for the Android Recovery menu to show up
- Once in Recovery, press Volume down repeatedly to highlight wipe data / factory reset
- Press Power to select the highlighted option
- Press Volume down to highlight wipe cache partition and press Power
- Highlight Yes and press Power to confirm
- After the cache partition is cleared, highlight Reboot system now and press Power
NOTE: if clearing the cache partition didnt help, you can check this thread for a guide on how to factory reset the phone instead.
Reboot to Safe Mode and Uninstall an App:
NOTE: In case you have installed a third party app that causes issues and prevents you from removing it, you should be able to remove the app within Safe Mode. In this mode, all third party apps are disabled by default.
- Turn the phone Off
- Press and hold Power past the model name screen
- At the Samsung logo, release Power and immediately press and hold Volume down instead
- Keep the volume key pressed until the device finishes rebooting. NOTE: once the phone reboots, it should display a Safe Mode watermark in the lower area of the screen
- To remove an app, first open Settings
- Then access Apps and select the desired app
- Tap Uninstall two times to remove the app
- To exit Safe Mode, press and hold Power and tap Restart
