Clear App Cache/Data:
NOTE: If one of your apps freezes, crashes, takes up too much storage inexplicably or otherwise doesnt work as intended, you can try fixing these problems by clearing the apps cache/data.
WARNING! When you clear an apps data, all your personal app data stored within the app will be deleted, including credit card and login information, profiles, save files, high scores, settings etc. To avoid losing personal app data, clear ONLY the apps cache.
- Launch Settings
- Tap Apps
- Select the desired app and go to Storage
- Tap Clear cache to clear the apps cache
- If clearing the cache didnt help, tap Clear data (check WARNING above)
Wipe the Cache Partition:
NOTE: If your device freezes, crashes, runs out of storage inexplicably or otherwise doesnt work as intended and youre considering factory resetting it, you can try fixing these issues by clearing the devices cache partition. This can led to results similar to a factory reset without losing any personal data on the device.
- Fist power the phone off
- Then press and hold Volume Up and Home at the same time
- Then press and hold Power as well
- At the droid logo, release all buttons and wait for the Recovery menu
- Once in Recovery, press Volume down repeatedly to navigate to and highlight Wipe data/factory reset
- Press power to select the highlighted option
- Press Volume down to highlight Wipe cache partition and press Power
- Highlight Yes and press Power again to confirm
- After the process completes, highlight Reboot system now and press Power one last time
NOTE: If clearing the cache partition didnt help, check this thread for a guide on how to factory reset the device instead.
Reboot to Safe Mode and Remove an App:
NOTE: In case you have installed a third-party app that causes problems and prevents you from removing it, you should be able to uninstall the app from Safe Mode. In this mode, all third-party apps are disabled by default.
- Turn the phone off
- Next press and hold Power pas the model name screen
- At the Android logo, release Power and immediately press and hold Volume down instead
- Release the button once the device finishes rebooting. Once done, a Safe Mode watermark should be shown in the lower area of the home screen
- To remove an app, open Settings and go to Apps
- Select the desired application and tap Uninstall two times
- To exit Safe Mode, press and hold Power and tap Restart to reboot your device as you would do normally
