Clear an Apps Cache/Data:
NOTE: If one of your apps freezes, crashes, doesnt work as intended or takes up too much storage inexplicably, you can try fixing these issues by clearing the apps cache and/or data.
WARNING! When you clear an apps data, all your personal data stored within the app will be deleted. This includes login information and user profiles, save files, progress etc. To avoid losing personal app data, clear ONLY the apps cache.
- Launch Settings
- Go to Apps
- Select the desired app
- Go to Storage > Clear cache
- If clearing the cache didnt solve the issues, try Clear data (check Warning above)
Clear the Phones Cache Partition:
NOTE: If your phone crashes, freezes, runs out of storage inexplicable or otherwise doesnt work as intended and you are planning factory resetting it, alternatively you can try clearing the phones cache partition. This can lead to similar results as a factory reset without losing personal data on the phone.
- Turn the device Off if necessary
- Press and hold Home and Volume Up at the same time, then press and hold Power as well
- At the Android screen, release the buttons and wait for the Recovery menu
- In recovery, press volume down repeatedly to navigate the menu and highlight Wipe data/factory reset
- Press Power to select the highlighted option
- Highlight Wipe cache partition and press Power
- Highlight Yes and press Power again
- After the cache has been cleared, highlight Reboot system now and press Power
NOTE: If clearing the cache partition didnt help, you can check this thread for a guide on how to factory reset the device instead.
Reboot to Safe Mode and Remove an App:
NOTE: If one of your third-party apps causes issues and prevents you from removing it, you should be able to uninstall the app while in Safe Mode. In this mode, all third-party apps are disabled by default.
- Turn the phone Off if necessary
- Press and hold Power
- At the Samsung screen, release Power and quickly press and hold Volume down instead
- Once the phone reboots, release all the buttons. A Safe Mode watermark should be visible in the lower area of the home screen
- To uninstall an app, first open Settings then go to Apps
- Select the desired app and tap Uninstall
- To exit Safe Mode, reboot the device as you would do normally
