Delayed notifications in the calendar

I have the Galaxy S5.

Lately, when I create reminders and tasks in the calendar, there is a delay until it notifies me. It's late.

It notifies me after a delay of a few minutes, an hour and sometimes not at all.

Also, if I unlock the phone from sleep mode, the notification suddenly notifies.

What could be causing the delay?
