Clear an Apps Cache/Data:
NOTE: If one of your apps freezes, crashes, takes up too much storage inexplicably, or otherwise doesnt work as intended you can try solving these issues by clearing the apps cache/data.
WARNING! When you clear an apps data, all your personal data stored within the app will be deleted, including user profiles, save files, credit card and login information etc. To avoid losing personal app data, clear ONLY the apps cache.
- Launch Settings
- Go to Apps and select the desired app
- Access Storage
- Tap Clear cache
- If clearing the app cache didnt help, tap Clear data (check WARNING above)
Clear the Cache Partition:
NOTE: If your phone crashes, freezes, runs out of storage inexplicably or otherwise doesnt work as intended and youre considering factory resetting it, alternatively you can clearing the phones cache partition instead. This can have similar results as a factory reset without losing any personal data on the phone storage.
- Ensure the phone is powered Off
- Press and hold Volume Up and Home at the same time, then press and release Power
- At the Android screen, release the buttons and wait for access to Android Recovery
- Once in Recovery, navigate the menu by pressing Volume down and highlight Wipe data/factory reset
- Press Power
- Highlight Wipe cache partition and press Power
- Next, highlight Yes and press Power again to confirm
- Ensure Reboot system now is highlighted and press Power
NOTE: If clearing the cache partition didnt help, you can check this thread for a guide on how to factory reset the device instead.
Reboot to Safe Mode and Remove an App:
NOTE: If one of your third-party app causes issues and prevents you from removing it, you should be able to uninstall the app while in Safe Mode, where all third-party apps are disabled by default.
- Turn the phone Off if necessary
- Press and hold Power
- When prompted with the Samsung screen, release Power and quickly press and hold Volume down instead
- Once the phone finishes rebooting, release the buttons. Note that a Safe Mode watermark should be shown in the lower area of the home screen
- To uninstall an app, first open Settings
- Go to Apps
- Select the desired app and tap Uninstall
- After the process completes, exit Safe Mode by rebooting your device as you would do normally
