Clear App Cache/Data:
NOTE: If one of your apps freezes, crashes, takes up too much storage inexplicably or otherwise doesnt work as intended, you can try solving these issues by clearing the apps cache/data.
WARNING! When you clear an apps data, all your personal data stored within the app will be deleted, including login information, save files, profiles etc. To avoid losing personal app data, clear ONLY the apps cache.
- Open Settings
- Go to Apps
- Select the desired app and go to Storage
- Tap Clear cache
- If clearing the apps cache didnt help, tap Clear data (check the WARNING above)
Wipe the Phones Cache Partition:
NOTE: If your device crashes, freezes, runs out of storage inexplicably or otherwise doesnt work as intended and youre considering factory resetting it, alternatively you can try clearing the phones cache partition. This can have results similar to a factory reset without losing personal data on the device.
- Ensure the phone is powered off
- Press and hold Home and Volume Up at the same time, then press and release Power
- At the Android screen release the buttons and wait for access to Android Recovery
- In Recovery, press Volume down repeatedly to navigate to and highlight wipe data/factory reset
- Press Power to select the highlighted option
- Highlight Wipe cache partition and press Power
- Highlight Yes then press Power again
- After the process is done, ensure Reboot system now is highlighted and press Power one last time to confirm
NOTE: If clearing the cache partition didnt help, you can check this thread for a guide on how to factory reset the phone.
Reboot to Safe Mode and Remove an App:
NOTE: If one of your third-party applications causes issues and prevents you from uninstalling it, you should be able to uninstall the app while in Safe Mode, where all third-party apps are disabled by default.
- Turn the phone Off if necessary
- Press and hold Power
- At the Samsung screen, release Power and quickly press and hold Volume down instead
- Once the phone finishes rebooting, release the buttons. Note that a Safe mode watermark should be shown in the lower area of the home screen
- To remove an app, open Settings then go to Apps
- Select the desired app and tap Uninstall
- Once the app has been removed, exit Safe Mode by rebooting the device as you would do normally
