Clear App Cache/Data:
NOTE: If one of your apps freezes, crashes, takes up too much storage inexplicably or otherwise doesnt work as intended, you can try fixing these issues by clearing the apps cache/data.
WARNING! When you clear an apps data, all your personal data stored within the app will be deleted, including user profiles, high scores, save files, login information, custom settings etc. To avoid losing personal app data, clear ONLY the apps cache.
- Open Settings
- Go to Apps
- Select the desired app and tap Storage > Clear data > OK
- If clearing the app data didnt help, tap Clear cache (check the WARNING above)
Wipe the Phones Cache Partition:
NOTE: If your phone crashes, freezes, runs out of storage inexplicably or otherwise doesnt work as intended and youre considering factory resetting it, alternatively you can try fixing these issues by clearing the phones cache partition. This can have similar results to a factory reset, without losing personal data from the phone storage.
- Turn the phone Off
- Press and hold Volume Up and the Home/Bixby button at the same time, then press and hold Power as well
- At the Android logo, release the buttons and wait up to a minute for the Android Recovery menu
- Once in Recovery, press Volume down repeatedly to navigate the menu and highlight Wipe cache partition
- Press Power to select the option and highlight Yes, then press Power again
- Once the cache is cleared, ensure Reboot system now is highlighted and press Power
NOTE: If clearing the cache partition didnt fix the issues, you can check this thread for a guide on how to factory reset the phone instead.
Reboot to Safe Mode and Remove an App:
NOTE: If one of your third-party apps causes issues and prevents you from removing it, you should be able to remove the app while in Safe Mode where all third-party apps are disabled by default.
- Turn the phone off if needed
- Press and hold Power
- At the Samsung logo, release Power and immediately press and hold Volume down
- Wait for the device to finish rebooting and release the volume key. A Safe Mode watermark should be shown in the lower area of the home screen
- To uninstall an app, go to Settings and access Apps
- Select the desired app and tap Uninstall two times to confirm
- To exit Safe Mode, reboot the device as you would normally do
