Clear App Cache/Data:

NOTE: If an app crashes, freezes, takes up too much storage or otherwise doesn’t work as intended, you can try solving these issues by clearing the app’s cache/data.

WARNING! By clearing an app’s data, all your personal data stored within the app will be deleted, including settings, user profiles, save files, login and payment information etc. To avoid losing personal data from the app, clear only the app’s cache.

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Access “Apps’
  3. Select the desired app and tap “Storage’
  4. Tap “Clear data” > “OK”
  5. If clearing the app data didn’t solve the issues, tap “Clear cache”

Clear the Phone’s Cache Partition:

NOTE: If your phone crashes, freezes, runs out of storage inexplicably or otherwise doesn’t work as intended and you’re considering factory resetting it, alternatively you can try fixing these issues by clearing the phone’s cache partition. This can have similar results to a factory reset without losing personal data from the device.

  1. Turn the phone Off
  2. Press and hold “Power” “Volume Up” and the “Bixby”/”Home” buttons at the same time
  3. At the Android screen, release the buttons and wait for access to Recovery
  4. Once there, navigate the menu by pressing “Volume down” repeatedly and highlight “Wipe cache partition”
  5. Press “Power” to select the highlighted option
  6. Highlight “Yes” and press “Power” again
  7. After the process completes, highlight “Reboot system now” and press “Power” one last time to confirm

NOTE: if clearing the cache didn’t solve the issues, you can check this thread for a guide on how to factory reset the device instead.

Reboot to Safe Mode and Uninstall an App:

NOTE: if a third-party app causes issues and prevents you from removing it from the phone, you should be able to uninstall the app while in Safe Mode. In this mode all third-party apps are disabled by default.

  1. Turn the phone Off
  2. Press and hold “Power”
  3. At the “Samsung” logo release “Power” and immediately press and hold “Volume down” instead
  4. Release the buttons once the phone finishes rebooting. A “Safe Mode” watermark should be shown in the lower area of the home screen
  5. To remove an app, open “Settings” then access “Apps”
  6. Select the desired app and tap “Uninstall” two times to confirm
  7. Once done, reboot the phone normally to exit Safe Mode
