Clear App Cache/Data:

NOTE: if one of your apps freezes, crashes, takes up too much storage or otherwise doesn’t work as intended, you can try fixing these problems by clearing the app’s data or cache.

WARNING! When you clear an app’s data, all your personal data stored within the app will be deleted, including user profiles, login and payment information, personalized settings, save files etc. To avoid losing personal app data, clear ONLY the app’s cache.

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Access “Apps”
  3. Select the desired app
  4. Tap “Storage” > “Clear cache”
  5. Tap “OK”
  6. If clearing the cache didn’t solve the issue, tap “Clear data” (check the WARNING above)

Wipe the Phone’s Cache Partition:

NOTE: If your phone crashes, freezes, or doesn’t work as intended and you’re considering a factory reset, alternatively you can try fixing these problems by clearing the cache partition. This can have results similar to a factory reset without losing personal data from the phone.

  1. Turn the phone off if necessary
  2. Press and hold “Volume Up” “Power” and the “Home”/”Bixby” buttons simultaneously
  3. Release the buttons at the Android screen and wait for access to Recovery
  4. Press “Volume down” to navigate the menu and highlight “Wipe cache partition”
  5. Press “Power” to select the option
  6. Highlight “Yes” and press “Power”
  7. Lastly highlight “Reboot system now” and press “Power” to confirm

NOTE: If clearing the cache partition didn’t help, you can check this thread for a guide on how to reset the phone instead.

Reboot to Safe Mode and Remove an App:

NOTE: If one of your third-party apps causes issues and prevents you from uninstalling it, you should be able to remove the app while in Safe Mode where all third-party apps are disabled by default.

  1. Turn the phone Off
  2. Press and hold “power”
  3. At the “Samsung” logo release “Power” and immediately press and hold “Volume down” instead
  4. Release the key once the phone reboots. Note that a Safe Mode watermark should be shown in the lower area of the home screen
  5. To remove an app, open “Settings” and go to “Apps”
  6. Select the desired app and tap “Uninstall” two times
  7. Once done, exit Safe Mode by rebooting the phone normally
