i have read the sticky, to check for previous thread but i couldnt find one...so here goes
i just got the E730 phone. i wanted to connect my phone to my PC, but it doesnt seem to work. i've installed all the programs from Samsung PC Studio II, but i cant use any of it.
when i wanted to install the USB driver, my system said that it's not compatible with Windows but i did it anyway. and when i connect the cable to my USB port, and then my phone, at first the phone appears to be charging, but after that nothing happens.
i wanted to setup my File Manager, but i cant even connect to the port. when i open the 'PIM and File Manager', it says that "Cannot open the port and this program is switched in offline mode. After, try to switch it online". how do i switch on the port?
i dont think there's anything wrong with my port, since my printer and thumb drive can be read. i dont know what else to do....i'm sooo frustrated right now. i went to the shop where i bought the
phone, no one knows what to do since the technician is outstation.
i have read previous thread on the same topic, tried the solution, but it is still the same. Can anyone, admin...anyone, please help?!

There are a few things you have to make sure:
1. Did you get the correct cable for E730? Cable for other model may not work for E730.
2. Did you install Samsung's USB driver? That driver may only work for Samsung's original OEM cable and it may not work for other 3rd party cable. For 3rd party cable, you have to contact the seller of the cable and request for the driver or link to the driver.
3. With the cable and phone connected to PC, open Device Manager and see if you can see the line for the usb cable and see what COM part was assigned to the cable. If you can't find the line for the driver but instead find line with "!" or "?", then the driver is not installed properly or a wrong driver is used.
4. In PIMS, click File - Setup and change Ports to the same COM port that is assigned to the cable. If everything setup correctly, it should detect your phone. Sometimes you may have to restart PIMS.

The cable that I am using came packaged with the phone.

Offline means the program or your PC cannot recognize your phone. It could be due to wrong cable, missing or wrong driver or wrong PIMS setup as I mentioned in my earlier post. Go through that one by one. Hope it helps! By the way, there is a help manual in PIMS, just press F1.
Cballer8, have you installed the USB driver from Samsung? Did you setup PIMS correctly to use the usb cable?Last edited by js1662; 11-08-2005 at 05:19 PM. Reason: Adding more comment

I installed the USB driver and the PIMS that came in the software

Since the cable came packed inside the phone, there is no reason to believe that it is not the correct cable. Check other things like the usb driver and PIMS setup
From your posts, the remaining thing is the PIMS setup. Check Device Manager and see if you can locate the Samsung data cable and see what COM port is assigned to the cable. Go to PIMS File - Setup and change Ports to match that of the cable. If you have already done that and it still doesn't work, you may have to contact Samsung and ask for their help.Last edited by js1662; 11-08-2005 at 05:25 PM.

Everything seems normal so far, what speed is used in setup? Try other speeds like 115200 or higher.
By the way, did you install other programs from Samsung such as PC Studio Internet Access and PC Studio PC Sync? If not, install them as well and setup Samsung modem. Earlier S/W like EasyGPRS for other model need the Samsung modem to work. Not sure if the same applies to PC Studio.

Should you jus install the software first then plug the phone into the PC?

I think you should plug the phone into the PC first. By the way, have you check Device Manager and confirmed COM4 is assigned to the cable?
