Make sure you're phone's ability to roam is turned on. Should be somewhere under the network settings. If it is and you're still "searching," you're just in a location where you can't get a signal.

Which service provider do you have? Try re-programming the phone and see if that does the trick. If you don't know how to re-program the phone, take it into your provider's local retail store.
