I haven't looked into this aspect of it Gustavo, your best bet is to either download the manual online or call Samsung directly, their customer service in Dallas, TX is very helpful. 888-987-4357. I'll see what I can find out in my manual also. If the 300 contact thing is the only reason you need the Outlook synchronization, it's worth biting the bullet if you can't do it. And, you don't have to do 300 entries either, entries are multiple per contact, so if you have more than one entry per person, you will have to put in the various numbers, but not the name 2 or 3 times.

The online manual has no mention of entering data other than using the buttons on the phone. They offer a software download that allows what I want, but doesnt work on A930's sold in North America. Dang. it sure is a cool phone.

Verizon offers "Backup Assist" for a monthy fee to download all contacts and store them in case the phone dies, but no way to actually manage them.

I wouldn't pay for that monthly thing from Verizon. One way to get around entering all those contacts, or at least alleviating it, would be to enter the info onto your new phone a little bit at a time.

Like I said, it really is a cool phone, and that 300 contact thing is kind of small pototoes; in my opinion anyways. You really will like the phone. I like so many things about it but it's also nice to not have the same phone everyone else has. I haven't seen too many people with it.

I agree, its a great looking phone! Id love to have it, but this contact issue is a deal breaker. Managing the contacts will always be an issue on the job. There has to be a way to do it easily for me, or its just a boat anchor with a dial tone.

At this point id even spring for third party software to do the job, if i knew it wouldnt void my warranty on the Samsung. It sure is cool.

I would Google that and see what's out there for third party software. You should also start a new thread here addressing that issue specifically, I don't think it will take very long 'til you hear back.

You mentioned non-availability of that feature in North America, did you call Samsung and have them tell you that? If not, I would call them and see what they say and ask them how to get around this issue.

Once you get past the initial entry of those 300 contacts, it will all be downhill from there. I use a very crude way of keeping my contact information backed up, but it works fine; I have it on an Excel spreadsheet.

If it's for business and you're constantly accessing that kind of thing, you may want to look at more of a smartphone, that includes email access as well. Are you in sales?

The Samsung support website that non-availability feature in N.A. I also read that the A930 doesnt support the FTP version of bluetooth, which would allow management of the phonebook through bluetooth software. I dont have any experience with Bluetooth so I could be understanding the Samsung info incorrectly. The third party software ive seen uses Bluetooth DUNS, which the phone is capable of, but Verizon disables on their network.

my company has a short list of approved phones i can get through their discount program. Thats why I'm trying to find a solution about this A930. it's not a $200 PDA/smartphone type of phone as most of the available phones are. My choices for a cool simple phone are limited.

I'd still say this is one way to go. What are the other phones that are available to you?

I bought DataPilot Data Tansfer Suite to keep backups of my phone list and sync with my Outlook. I have about 450 I keep on my phone and about 1000 in my Outlook. It works great.

yeah i tried that thing with emailing yourself the file and it didnt really work. the phone automatically saved it as like a .qxc file. (and the quality was terrible) but so far for anyone else with this problem (getting ur own music on the phone) heres my solution and its working fine.

this program is great, as soon as you connect ur phone it automatically recognizes it and is like hey! i see your phone!!!
*note* this was AFTER i installed the phone drivers from the CD i got from verizon wireless... i dont know if these drivers are available online but google should help for something like that.

anyways so you open the program and click on media, and here you can upload a sound, ringtone, or image.

if you want to upload a ringtone click ringtone and when you upload it will automatically put it in the ringtones folder on the phone.
to upload to the phone there is a little button at the top that when you put the mouse over it, it says send files to your phone.

for you peeps who aren't really familiar with sound editing, dont worry about it! this program does it for you. i myself use soundforge first (i like my ringtones to be perfect) but all you have to do is click the little music note at the top with a plus sign next to it and youre good to go.

click browse and find the mp3 you want and then on the drop down menu click 96 kbps and leave it to stereo... or if you want mono, it doesnt really matter. anyways, a little ms-dos window should come up and have a whole bunch of numbers on there which is this programs way of converting the file. after that the whole area on the lower part of this dialog box will light up and you can here edit which part of the song you want to use... i would recommend not going anymore than 30 seconds for a ringtone which makes sense... who the hell takes 30 seconds to pick up their phone??? haha.
anyways after you select which portion of the song you want just click ok and you are ready to go.

to send this song to your ringtones list simply hit "send phone data" on the top left (its the second button over from the top left) and your comp. will send the song to your phone. my phone always reboots when i do this so i am guessing that's normal haha.

some things i dont like about this program:
1. when you upload a song it forces you to convert and edit the song in thier program... even after you did it in another program.
2. you can't upload complete songs to the my music folder and instead only to sounds or ringtones.
3. when you try to upload an image they make you edit it, which makes sense. but they restrict you to this one damn rectangle which for some reason constrains the proportions and doesnt let you freely select which part of the picture. i usually end up with large backgrounds (at least you can change the color of it)

i am looking for a program which lets me upload:
a) music to the my music folder
b) upload images and pictures without having to edit them first in the same program.

i hope i was of help to anyone that was lost and i hope to get some help for my problems

It's not that hard to tell. I had a guy in the store the other day that had changed the outside screen on his RAZR. When the phone was open, the outside screen just displayed "RAZR" on fire which is not what Verizon originally put there. You can also see it in the ringtones or differences in the UI...

Before I read about the sage advice of DUde222, I went ahead and bought Verizon's Music Essentials package for my SCHa930. The CD installation went through okay but when it came time to install the "music player" which is just another name for Windows Media Player ver10, an error screen popped up saying "A higher version of Windows Media Player is already installed... installation is interrupted" or something along those lines. Now when I hook up the data cable and the program automatically loads, I have trouble syncing my songs to the phone. I keep getting the following error message:

Windows cannot connect to the network. Check your proxy settings or URL address.

But I'm trying to sync songs already on my drive C. I don't get it. Other than that, the SCHa930 is a great phone. And thanks, DUde222, I got great customized ringtones using your Blaze Media + WinAmp strategy. Cool beans.

Cool! One step you can try and leave out is the WinAmp part where you check to see if the songs have tags. I forgot to do it once, got used to NOT doing it and I haven't had any problems w/o that step.
