Sch-a990, Absolute Pos!!!!

My sister-in-law gave me this phone about 5 or 6 weeks back. I don't think it was even out in the public yet (she works for verizon). I thought "kick ass" new phone for me but.... WHAT A PILE OF CRAP!!! It's supposed to be some great camera phone but in reality the pictures are just like a very low end digital camera and worst of all, Samsung has put so much effort into the camera part of it, they apparently forgot that it's supposed to act as a PHONE too!!!
It's truly the worst cell phone that I've ever had. It constantly loses signal and barely even shows any bars at all in a bunch of places where my last couple of phones (motorola & kyocera) had no problems at all and I have been with verizon for all 3 phones so it's not a change in coverage areas that made the difference. I am only glad that I didn't pay the $250 or $300 that the phone is going for in the marketplace but even though the phone was free, it's still not worth it! I mean the f_cking thing has got to receive and place calls, doesn't it?
Just wanted to vent my frustration and hopefully give the rest of you a heads up to be careful if you are looking at that phone, been nothing but trouble for me and I'm now in the market for a replacement...which reminds me....anybody out there have advice on a good, solid, no frills cell phone (still with a camera but nothing fancy)????

Funny its one of the highest rated Samsungs out there. CNET loved it and their tough on everything. It sounds like you had a bad experience with it, this doesn't make it a POS. Or maybe it is, I don't know. I've owned tons of Samsung products and they've never let me down so far.

I don't know what they are rating it on...camera maybe? It does have a huge screen for a cell phone camera. My complaint is that it functions like SH!T as a cell phone and it seems to me that should be what it does best but maybe that's just me. After I posted this yesterday, I did a search and found another poster with the exact same gripes as I have so I don't think I got a lemon but it COULD just be coincidence, who knows? I guess the market will find out eventually, right?

ive got the lower end A707 and think its great. what were you epecting out of the cell phone camera? of course its not going to be any better than a low end digital camera... it's a cell phone! they don't have 7 and 8 megapixel cameras on cell phones to my knowledge yet!

Try reading my comments again and stick your attitude!
My gripe is not about the camera. Your comment of "it's a cell phone!" is where the problem is...because you are 100% right, it IS supposed to be a CELL PHONE!!! That's the problem! I can barely get a signal in places where my past 2 phones were perfect and it drops calls on me all over the place. As I said, I think they tried so hard to make it a great camera that they forgot that it's supposed to make & receive calls too --- I mean, first and foremost it's a frickin' PHONE!!! And that's where it's a POS!!! The camera is okay but don't we all buy a cell phone in the first place to talk on? So, if it doesn't perform its primary function worth a crap, then what good is it?
It's like having a car with a kick-a$$ sound system but the car doesn't run; you can sit in your driveway and listen to awesome tunes but that's NOT why you bought the car in the first place, right?
