    Hello,

I just got a Samsung Rant.

I plugged the included micro SD card into my computer and copied some image files and MP3 files onto the memory card. From the phone, I can go into the file manager section and play the sound files or view the pictures...but, how do I assign one of the MP3 files as a ringtone? It seems like I can only choose one of the ringtones/music on the phone, or I have to download a ringtone.

    Thanks.

I need an answer to this same exact question...the phone wants to only assign ring tones from either pre-installed ringers or from My Stuff but I want to assign the ring tones that I can play from my MicroSD Card that I downloaded from my PC.

Re: Samsung Rant (M540) mp3 ringtones from sd card

    hello,

I found a way... I had the MP3 file on my computer, so I used a free web site called Rumkin. I was able to upload the MP3 file to that site, and then the site sent the MP3 file directly to my cell phone and added it to the list of ringtones. I was then able to assign it as a ringtone. The MP3 file is saved directly in the phone's memory, though, not on the SD card.

I have found that the best way to do this is to sms message yourself the mp3 in question.

Hi everybody I'm new 2 this site. I came here looking for how 2 put ringtones on the new rant. Happy to say I have the answer & best everything is free.

    1. go to phonezoo Free Ringtones from Phonezoo: Make and Download Free Ringtones, Free Mobile Wallpaper and Free Mobile Games[/url] create an account if you don't already have one.
    2. select rintones at the top if you to create your own ringtone from your own music select the option to create from file
    3. upload your file & then create your ringtone
    4. once the ringtone is created choose save to my zoo
    5. select my zoo & then your ringtone
    6. once you have your ringtone selected select save to pc
    7. upload the saved ringtone to rumkin
    8. choose the sprint pcs vision uploader
    8. enter the info & your phone number & the rumkin uploader will send the ringtone to your phone free of charge

*if you use one of the user created ringtones just follow steps 7-8

Hopes this helps. For me this was the easiest way to create my own ringtones for free using the RANT

Can somebody tell me if Sprint charges you for downloading the songs from sites like rumpkin, or phonezoo? I dont have an internet plan, so it charges me 3 cents per KB.

Re: Samsung Rant (M540) mp3 ringtones from sd card

i have done this and it works fine with no sms messaging or anything that can compromise you phone number:

    1. take the mp3 and rename the extension .avi (same encoding without the video)

    2. get the free 3g2 converter pazera and convert your avi to 3g2

    3. load it to your sd card

    4. ringtones can be selected from uploaded videos

    easy as pie

    edit:

    1. you need to put the 3g2 file in the DCIM folder

    2. videos over 512k cannot be loaded as ringers

and as for panzera: this free program rocks for uploading videos to your phone even full movies... nice

    Hi Toasted1,

I'm also dealing with the same problem, and I was hoping your solution would work because I don't have a data plan with Sprint and therefore don't want to have to go online with the phone to load ringtones.

I followed your instructions so that the ringtones I downloaded from the internet (on my computer) are now converted into .3g2 files. And with the cable I loaded them onto the sd card for the Rant. I wasn't entirely clear when you said that the files need to be in the DCIM folder whether that meant the DCIM folder of the phone or the card. So I've tried both, but in neither case will the phone allow me to use the files as ringtones. I've also tried putting them in the Videos folder.

What have I done wrong? Is there more than one way to load ringtones? I've been going through the Settings menu.

Thanks for any help you can give.

I understand as I don't have a plan as well...

under the memory card folder 'dcim' there is another folder '100ssmed' this is where the file goes. then under the ringer selection goto 'my videos' folder... it should be there....

I haven't tried qpst or bitpim yet... but i assume that will work as well.. but I am always wary of these chipset utility programs

Re: Samsung Rant (M540) mp3 ringtones from sd card

i have a rant, no internet plan, ive done the converter thing and it works but is there a way to get downloaded ringtones via pc and use they as both a ringer and/or message alert like for text messages. i been trying to use phonezoo but once i get the tone on the computer, i dont know what to do next and since i dont have internet, i cant upload using the text method (sprint charges data usage)
