Have had my Instinct phone for about six months. And I've had problems the entire time.
First, if I try to delete a message, it will take 45 seconds of a frozen screen before it does the job.
Or, sometimes I CAN'T delete. It does nothing. Press, press, press...nothing.
Or, if I have a waiting phone message notice that I'm supposed to "slide" upwards to listen..it won't slide.
Or, if I try to turn the entire phone off by holding down the top right button, it won't turn off.
Or, if I have voice messages, they won't appear for HOURS after they were left.
I despise this phone.
I understand there are updates I might try, but I can't even figure out how to find those updates and upload them.
I also see that some folks have exchanged their Instinct for another Instinct, and they get the same if not worse problems!!
What are my options??

Have you tried updating the software version? You can do it one of two ways. You can go to the web browser and touch the home icon. You will touch the yellow banner at the top right side of the screen that says Instinct Software Updates. Or you can go to settings, general, scroll to the bottom and "Update Software".
This should fix most of the issues you mentioned.Last edited by tavenger5; 09-30-2009 at 02:08 PM.

With all the issues you mentioned above, if you have had your phone for less than a year Sprint should do what they call and Advance Exchange. In my reply I mentioned where to go for the software update. You need to take your battery out and then put it back in and try to do the software update. Once you do that you should go back into settings, general and select update data profile. If that does not fix the issues then call them. I have had to have mine replaced twice. I now have an Instinct that is working like it is supposed to.
Good luck!!Last edited by tavenger5; 09-30-2009 at 02:08 PM.

Well I feel like an absolute idiot. When you wrote to do the software updates, my phone was in it's "I'm working" phase so I got lazy. And today, my phone COMPLETELY froze. I can't go anywhere at all. And if the phone rings, it won't slide to answer it. Horses poop. What a phone from hell. I despise this phone. I'll be calling tomorrow and pray I can do the Advance Exchange. I will NEVER get this phone again.

Unless you have had multiple exchanges (usually the fourth exchange they'll pull the trigger) you will be forced to get the same phone...the Instinct.

re: My Instinct M800 phone just has numerous problems! What can I do?
Got my new instinct phone today--it came VERY fast. Followed directions to get it activated. Then accidentally dialed a number that I thought was voice mail....and frantically tried to slide it to end the call....and guess what? It wouldn't slide. Sheesh.
But time will tell if this one has more of the same. And THIS TIME, I won't wait to call Sprint and complain like I did with the first one if I have similar problems as before. Even being unable to slide a call to stop it is not a good start.
If anyone is reading this, I can highly recommend NOT getting the Instinct, no matter how much fun a touch screen appears to be. The only exception: if the new one comes out MINUS all these sliding and freezing issues.Last edited by tavenger5; 09-30-2009 at 02:08 PM.

Instinct really sucks! I have instinct too which has no voice mail notification. Also My instinct froze lot of times. I had to remove the battery and put it back in order for it to work.... The worst Phone ever

re: My Instinct M800 phone just has numerous problems! What can I do?
I finally called them and firmly made it clear that my Instinct has sucked from almost the beginning....and they sent me a new one. So far, no frozen pages, and sliding does work even with a slight delay sometimes. But it works.
But the lack of VOICE MAIL NOTIFICATION definitely SUCKS. I thought it was just me and something I hadn't checked to be notified. But perhaps it's not. I also note that I'll get a voice mail HOURS after it was sent.Last edited by tavenger5; 09-30-2009 at 02:08 PM.

re: My Instinct M800 phone just has numerous problems! What can I do?
I am the one who originally started this post. My second Instinct proved to be almost as bad. And it had a new problem: the GPS didn't work to direct me to homes and businesses. AWFUL phone.
I called Customer Service again. I went through SEVEN reps in 1 3/4 long and tiring hours. They kept trying to tell me I had to try a 3rd one. I said NO WAY!! TWO crappy Instincts is enough. But they kept holding firm to that, or telling me I had to buy a whole new phone, to which I replied: WHY would I have to pay for a new phone when the problem is Sprint and their lousy Instincts?!?
One rep said she has an Instinct and it works fine. Ah, so I'm supposed to keep my lousy one, or trade for a good chance of getting ANOTHER lousy one, just because she claims her Instinct works well?? Ludicrous.
Or one said that since I didn't buy insurance, I'm out of luck. My reply: Insurance is NOT bought to insure lousy phones. It's bought in case I drop it or mess it up. I didn't not mess it up. Samsung did and Sprint did by selling them.
When I got off from the 6th one, I was ticked off. They could care less if they sell you a crappy phone. And they could care less if they weren't responsible for a lousy product. When I told the 6th one that NO, he didn't not help me solve the problem, and I'm sick and tired of being on the phone and was going to hang up now...he started to sweat and kept prodding me NOT to say he didn't help and not to get off the phone. These people are SO tiring. I DID get off the phone.
Finally, my son got in touch with a really GOOD rep. He offered me a Blackberry for $50...and I would get that $50 back by turning in my Instinct to Sprint. I said that's a done deal, and I now own a flawless, perfectly working Blackberry phone.
I would NEVER recommend that phone to anyone.Last edited by tavenger5; 09-30-2009 at 02:08 PM.

re: My Instinct-M800 phone just has numerous problems! What can I do?
Well, not that I want to "one up" anyone here but I am on my 5th Instinct since Feb. Went through 4 of the 800 models and now have the new crappier Instinct S30. I've had issues with email, voicemail, apps freezing, answering calls (slide to answer and the phone locks up but continues to ring and/or vibe) error messages, the works.
Called Sprint today and after 45 minutes and 3 reps later they said 1st they could file an insurance claim and send ANOTHER Instinct out, told them no this was 5th one already, so then it was they couldn't authorize a new model would have to be done at Sprint store. Went to Sprint store and the guy said only thing that they could do was hard reset but he advised that shouldn't hold breath on that working Which of course tells me they KNOW this phone sucks. I am so frustrated with this phone and simply do not know what to do at this point.Last edited by tavenger5; 09-30-2009 at 02:12 PM.
