I'd like to know if anybody knows how to set custom ringtones through bluetooth, a USB data cable, or a micro SDHC card on the Samsung SPH-m350 Seek. Sprint claims I can only set "custom" ringtones by buying music from their store, but I don't just want a broader set of pre-defined ringers I can PAY for, I want to set custom sounds I already have recorded.
I'm especially mad about not being able to do this since I was promised I could do it after I brought up the question multiple times at my local Sprint store. I have a limited plan so I can't get a nice smartphone that'll no doubt do this easily, and I don't want to have to argue my way out of paying a restocking fee at the store for returning the phone. I also can't angrily cancel my service since I just did a phone "upgrade" that locks me into 2 more years of bliss with them (that and I get a 25% discount on service from a corporate plan).
I'd love it if I could use a program like BitPim to do this - my last phone had the same functionality blocked but I was able to use BitPim to do this with a USB cable (granted, it wasn't officially supported and I had to change the settings for each type of transfer - contacts, pictures, ringtones, etc). I'm still waiting on my USB cable to ship, so is there anyone who can help me out beforehand with a little info?

Re: Ringtones through data cable/micro SDHC
Man, I was searching the internet and found my old post. Is there ANY way to do this? The Samsung Seek is pathetic - all I want is to set some simple soundfiles as ringtones on my phone without having to pay $.04/KB for internet usage.

Re: Ringtones through data cable/micro SDHC
Hi I have the Samsung Entro from PC Mobile (very close to the Seek).
I'm having trouble adding ringtones too - I can add music to the SD card on my phone, but can't figure out how to make it into a ringtone if it's possible. I don't have Internet access either - too expensive for me.
I'm also having trouble with the display - do you know if I can use pictures from my SD card, and set them as the display pic?
Where did you get your USB cord from? I'd like to know, and if you were able to use it to get a ringtone onto your phone.
Thanks!
Steph

Re: Ringtones through data cable/micro SDHC
Hooray for web browsers eating huge posts! Now to retype this...
I got my cable off of Amazon.com for a few bucks. In searching for the Entro I've seen it listed as the SPH-M350, which is the model number for the Seek as well so I'm not sure how different they are. It looks to use the standard Samsung / Blackberry data cable so if you know anybody that has another Samsung or a Blackberry ask them if you can borrow it. Here's a link to the cable I bought; it's only $3 shipped in the US and the cable works fine but is a little tight in the plug:
[ame=http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002KLK3Y0/]Amazon.com: Samsung M350/Seek USB Data Cable: Cell Phones & Accessories[/VIDEO]
And no, I still haven't been able to get ringtones on it, but the cable is nice for putting music on the card and charging it from a PC.
If your interface is the same as mine then when you open a picture there'll be a little icon that looks like a square with an arrow in it pointing to a silhouette of a person. That button will let you assign the current picture to either a picture ID for a contact or the phone background. Your manual should say more about it if you still have it.

Re: Ringtones through data cable/micro SDHC
Awesome, thanks for the info. I have a micro SD card, so I can get music on there that way... so I probably won't get the cord, but good to know.
There's a program that is supposed to help you get ringtones and such from your computer onto the phone via your USB cable... It's called PC studio and is provided by Samsung. I've seen nothing but bad reviews about it though.
The pictures weren't showing up for me because I wasn't saving them in the right file on my micro SD card whoops...
Thanks again and good luck with the ringtones!

Re: Ringtones through data cable/micro SDHC
All the software I've seen so far either can't communicate properly with the Seek, access only the memory card (which doesn't help), or doesn't recognize it at all.

Re: Ringtones through data cable/micro SDHC
Any solution to getting ringtones onto Seek/Entro as of yet? Just recently received the Entro from Bell as a replacement for my Samsung Vice with dead screen(much better phone, can download and save custom ringtones via WAP sites). Got Bell World to transfer contact from old to new but they say they "cannot transfer ringtones and I must re-download them" but I really do not like nor want top 40 tunes as my ringtone.
Really not liking this phone although only stuck with it for less then a year til contract renew, but would like to at least make it mine with my own customizations. Any help would be better then Bell.

No luck, unfortunately. I've pretty much given up on getting it to work.

Re: Samsung Seek Ringtones through data cable/micro SDHC
Well, here's somewhat of good news. All in the same day of posting my original reply/comment I stumbled on a little something at theringtonemaker.com which uploads your ringtone to some server (http://djte.mobi) which you then access that server via your mobile browser, you can also run a test download from mobile site to confirm it works. When I saw it did work I bit the bullet and reg'd the ringtone maker app, worth it. Once your ringtone is uploaded, access djte.mobi via mobile, enter your download key, get a confirm download option from your browser, which also gives you file properties/info prior to download. Best part is once the file is downloaded you are given the options to Listen, Set As, and shop. Set as call ringtone and voila, it f*cking works, holy crap a work around.
Now the downside.... Once I had my custom ringtone on my m350, ran a test. Listening to the ringtone in the ringers setting seemed to kinda freeze up the phone once the tone ended, ok. Then tried calling my m350 which rang through my ringtone once then rebooted the phone....but the phone I called from kept ringing until voicemail answered....what the f*uck. Upon further fiddling I noticed that the default ringers on the m350 didn't seem to end and restart when sampling them in the settings, just one really long tune.
So my fix was to use an mp3 editor to create an mp3 of my ringer looped 5 times, then used the ringtone maker app to make the ringer I'd upload 30 secs long (Ringtone Maker says most phones don't support longer but will eventually try, no data plan, quite pricey). Then set my Voice mail to pickup after 3 rings, long enough for me. That way the voice mail answers before the ringtone ends and reboots phone.
Don't know if this will help any but good luck if still trying. Anyone with a fix for the phone rebooting, or anything else, let us know.

Re: Samsung Seek Ringtones through data cable/micro SDHC
Try this: Put ringtone on SD card, Put SD card in phone,
Access the ringtone on the SD card and save/move it to the phone.
Ringtones must be on the PHONE.If you find this post helpful, click on bottom of each post: Like l Share

Re: Samsung Seek Ringtones through data cable/micro SDHC
Well as mentioned in previous post this is the only way to get your own custom ringtones onto the Samsung Seek/Entro m350 and still it ain't 100%. Same here, no data plan but sometimes we gotta bend over backwards for the toys we want.
If anyone needs assistance with this let me know, I can create and post unlimited ringtones which stay on the mobile server for 3 hours, can even post your tone for ya and forward the download key.

Re: Samsung Seek Ringtones through data cable/micro SDHC
Samsung Seek/Entro m350 not supported by Bitpim, Samsung New PC Studio or any other sync app at this time. Don't think developers have the time to get every phone model made properly configured for such apps. The only known solution for getting custom ringtones onto this phone is described in post#9, although it ain't 100% since I don't think this phone can actually support simple mp3 sound files .

Re: Samsung Seek Ringtones through data cable/micro SDHC
Camstuf,
The problem for me and the 9 posters above is that we we don't know how to "access the ringtone on the SD card and move it to the phone". This is like posting a recipe for an omelette by saying "Put some egga in a pan and them put it on your plate." Can you be more specific?
