Text Messaging ringtones

ok i have searched and searched but i have not seen a real straight answer is there a way for me to text message a ring tone to a friend and do i have to have it in a certain format to send it to them.

It works with monophonic ringtones, on some Nokia models without composers. It's called Nokia binary format and starts with //SCKL.

It works with monophonic ringtones, on some (older) Motorola models with composers. ("Motorola binary format")



These two formats, I can provide.



The Nokia codes apparently work on a T610, or so I've heard, although the quality is none too great.

Neither the Motorola codes nor the Nokia codes work on polyphonic Motorola handsets - I haven't tried them on anything else.




If you meant to send a polyphonic ringtone - you might as well forget it, sorry!
Unless you don't send a "plain text"-message, but a multimedia-message. IF your phone allows forwarding soundclips, you can send a polyphonic tone as well. It's NOT a "text message", though, but a "multimedia message".



So, whether you can "text message" your friend a ringtone depends on which type of tone you want to send to which phone model.


This is about as clear an answer as you can get, i suppose!

just wanted to tell you thanks for the information this more in one post that i have had been able to find.

thats how i got all my ringtones by text messageing

i have a nokia 2280 on cdma, until recently(yesterday) i could not get any new ringtones for it.
using //SCKL binary format i have 4 new tunes on my phone..
the only problem is finding more of these codes or at least some one that knows how to convert RTTL codes, nokia keypress codes or nokia composer codes...i have been informed that you can download free ringtone converters but i tried a free ringtone converter on about .com and it didn't do what i was asking it to do.....convert from one code to the other...ok..what your dealing with here is a modern technology dummy!! it was basically telling me to use something i don't have...
perhaps someone here knows how to convert in to the //SCKL format???

You can use CodingWorkshop RingtoneConverter (Full Version, about 20$ I think) or a program named "RingtoneTools" which is totally free.
You can download RingtoneTools here:

It's a "command line"-tool, though.

well you are ANGEL..thanks. i was on that site last night ,and wanted to get back to it today and was in the process of finding it in "history" thanks a million. you just put an end to that TEDIOUS task ( )
now the question is can this dummy figure it out???

I figure the "hardest" thing is to open a "command line-window" and get to the directory ringtonetools is in.

Of course, you can try to open one, see which one is the "default directory" and just place the program there.


The rest is easy actually!

ok, i tried to download 2 different ringtone converters,and for some reason they wouldn't download onto my computer properly if i recall correctly ,a window popped up that said file size was.......and file size is...... download again
not exact words but you get my drift.
i tried again, same results, so i have given up until my computer is reformatted...any way i have decided not to bother as i only want 2 ringtones converted......i have them written down in
RTTL , nokia keypress sequence and nokia composer, if anyone can convert them for me to //SCKL i will be one very happy chicky!!!

Just PM them over or something!
The RTTTL-codes, preferably. They're the easiest to import.
