Data Back Up

Backing Up Applications:

  1. From any home screen, tap the "Applications" icon
  2. Tap "Settings"
  3. Under "Personal", tap "Backup & reset"
  4. Mark the check box next to "Backup my data"
  5. Tap "Backup account" and choose a backup account. NOTE: you can tap "Add account" as an alternative, and follow the on-screen instructions to add a new account

Backing Up Contacts:

  1. Tap the "Phone" icon located on the home screen
  2. Tap the "Contacts" icon located in the top-left corner of the screen
  3. Touch the "Menu" icon situated in the bottom-right corner
  4. Tap "Back up Contacts"
  5. Perform one of the following sets of steps:
    • To back up data to the SIM Card:
      1. Tap "SIM card"
      2. Choose the contacts that you wish to back up, or tap "Mark all"
      3. Tap "Back up"
      4. If / when prompted, select "Add contacts" or "Replace all contacts"
      5. Tap "OK" if necessary
    • To back up to the SD card:
      1. Tap "SD card"
      2. Press "OK" to confirm

Backing Up Media Files on the SD Card:

  1. Tap the "Applications" icon located on the home screen
  2. Scroll to and tap "Settings"
  3. Tap "Storage"
  4. Select "Transfer data to SD card"

Backing UP Media Files Using a Windows Computer:

  1. Use the USB cable to connect your Xperia C to your computer
  2. On the PC, an AutoPlay window should appear. Click to browse the files and folders located on your phone
  3. Double-click "Internal storage"
  4. Navigate to where the desired media files are located
  5. Copy the files from the phone's internal storage
  6. Navigate to where you wish to back up the files on your computer's HDD
  7. Paste the files in the desired location
  8. Once the transfer is complete, click the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon located in the system tray
  9. Click "Safely Remove Mass Storage Device" > "OK"
  10. You can now disconnect your smartphone

Restoring Data

Restoring Applications:

  1. Tap the "Apps" icon located on the home screen
  2. Open "Settings"
  3. Go to "Personal" and tap "Backup & reset"
  4. Tap "Backup account" and select the desired account
  5. Mark the "Automatic restore" check box

Restoring Contacts:

  1. Tap the "Phone" icon located on the home screen
  2. Tap the "Contacts" icon situated in the upper-left corner
  3. Touch the "Menu" icon in the lower-right area of the screen
  4. Tap "Import contacts" and perform one of the following:

  • To restore contacts from the SIM card: Select the entry that you want to import, or tap "Import all"
  • To restore contacts from the SD card:
    1. Tap "SD card"
    2. Choose the vCard file that you want to import
    3. Press "OK"

Restoring Media Files From a Windows Computer:

  1. Establish a connection between your Xperia C and computer via USB
  2. In the AutoPlay window on your computer, click to explore the device's files and folders
  3. Access the phone's "Internal storage"
  4. Open a new Windows Explorer window and navigate to where the media files have been backed up on your computer
  5. Copy the desired files, and paste them on your phone's storage
  6. Once the transfer is done, click the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon in the system tray
  7. Click "Safely Remove Mass Storage Device" > "OK"
  8. Disconnect your smartphone from your PC
