Enable Battery Saving Mode:
- Tap Apps on the home screen
- Go to Settings
- Scroll to Device and tap Battery
- Tap Menu and enable Battery saver
Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:
- Swipe the Status bar down on the home screen using two fingers
- Drag the Brightness slider in the quick access panel to the left to decrease luminosity
- Go to Settings and scroll to Device
- Tap Display
- Optionally, enable or disable Adaptive brightness
- For screen timeout options, tap Sleep and select a lower value
Disable Connectivity Options when Unused:
NOTE: By disabling the phones connectivity features, including Hotspot, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and GPS, you might improve battery life in the long run.
- On the home screen, swipe the Status bar down using two fingers
- Tap the Bluetooth, Location and Wi-Fi tiles to disable the features
- For additional GPS options, go to Settings and tap Location
- Next, tap Mode and turn on Battery saving
- To disable Wi-Fi Hotspot, return to Settings
- Then, tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Tap Tethering & portable hotspot and set the feature to OFF
Switch to 2G Networks Temporarily:
NOTE: In case your phone runs low on battery and you dont have quick access to a wall socket or battery bank, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.
- Launch Settings
- Under Wireless & Networks, tap More
- Tap Mobile Networks > Preferred network type
- Choose 2G
Change Sync Settings:
NOTE: By changing your apps / accounts sync settings to reduce sync, you can improve battery life in the long run.
- Open the apps drawer on the home screen
- Launch Settings and scroll to Personal
- Tap Accounts and select an account
- Turn off the desired sync options
Minimize Third Party App Usage:
NOTE: Certain third party applications can perform regular background processes, and thus they can affect battery life even when not actively in use. By disabling or removing unused third party apps, you can improve battery life in the long run.
- Open Settings
- Scroll to Device and make sure All Apps is selected in the drop-down menu at the top
- Select the desired application
- Tap Force Stop to turn off the app
- To remove the app from the phone, tap Uninstall
NOTE: Another way to remove an app from your phone is to open the apps drawer and then drag & drop the apps shortcut on top of the Uninstall area.
Keep the Software Updated:
NOTE: OS updates can include battery life improvements, and as such its recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To check for new updates:
- Open Settings and then scroll to, and tap About phone
- Access System updates
- Verify if a new update is available, and if necessary, follow the on-screen prompts to download and apply any available updates. NOTE: This process will require a reboot
