Can someone please explain the contract that allows Sprint to use Alltel towers?
If Sprint can use all Alltel towers will Alltel use all of Sprint towers?
So...this would make both carriers equal in their coverage?

Help!! I'm trying to switch carriers in a rural area. Right now Alltel is the only one and strongest with Sprint being on the fringe (but has more web offerings). I'm hoping if Sprint CAN ping off of Alltel here in my town ...I can then buy Sprint because Sprint will be loud and clear!
    Anyone?

    Re: Sprint contract with Alltel

Well, my dad lives near Tifton, GA and I added him to my share plan some months ago because his verizon phone was getting terrible coverage in that area. Your coverage sounds similar to his; Alltel has great coverage in the area, and when he's not in Tifton or on a well-travelled highway somewhere he's generally roaming on Alltel, but the coverage is generally good with 3+ bars in most places. The problem he has, is that none of the internet, text, or voicemail notifcations work until he passes near a Sprint tower.

With the Fair & Flexible plan, roaming calls are treated as normal voice calls, no additional charges will incur. Sprint might be hesitant to give you service if you'll be roaming more than half the time, but they haven't said anything to me yet. Although I'll say, while my dad roams about 75% of the time, the other two phones I have on the plan roam about 5% and we use a ton of minutes in-network, so I'm not exactly costing them more than I'm paying for.

So, while I've heard of Cingular and other providers hassling customers who roam too much, I don't think I've heard anyone have that problem with Sprint's FAIR & FLEXIBLE. Other plans may have fine print about roaming coverage, but with F&F you shouldn't have any trouble. Still, depending on how much you roam, you won't be able to use any of the data services in Alltel coverage areas, and you'll have to periodically check your voicemail since the notifications don't alert you when roaming.

Hope this covered all your questions, and welcome to our forums!

edit: Oh yeah, he had to get a Tifton number, which costs people in his town 25c per call, lol.

    Thanks Brad.
One more question... if Alltel and Sprint had equal towers with the new contract...which would be better if Sprint now has the extra towers from Alltel? I'm wanting web access and can't get it with allltel....but not sure if I will be able to with the new contract on Alltel or Sprint.
    Thanks for your time.

^^^ Sorry, not sure if I understand. But your internet won't work when roaming on Alltel's network, so I think the answer to what you ask is that it would be better to have more Sprint towers.
