A friend of mine told me that because now nextel and sprint are together switching (at least from nextel to sprint, idk about the other way) is possible without being charged an early cancellation fee. Can anyone confirm this?

If you want to buy the Sprint phone and your already with nextel (and vice versa) I think you can ESN swap w/o any problems if you buy the phone itself

I went from sprint to nextel and back to sprint, each time getting a free phone and no ETF this summer. my sprint phone broke and I was not eligible for a new one so I went to nextel and got the I860 from amazon free after rebate, did not like nextel's crappy signal here so I went back to sprint and again got the samsung a920 from amazon FAR.

You may have to port your numbers in order to get the ETF waived

You can switch back and forth without an ETF. As they utilize different technology, you cannot do an ESN swap as suggested earlier, but you can port your number. Now that many of the Sprint accounts are in the same billing system as the Nextel accounts (they will all be on the same system this fall) it's not even a port any more, it is a network change. Any way you look at it now, it is very easily done and only takes a few hours to do.

Side note, the i860 is notorious for having crappy reception.
