I have had the black (unlocked) version of the RAZR with T-mobile for a few weeks now and everything worked fine until T-Mobile decided to upgrade their voicemail system. So, before the upgrade, when a new voice mail would come in, I would get a regular txt message saying I have a new voice mail. Now, as of a few days ago, all I am getting is some garbage characters sent to me via txt SMS... and as soon as I dial my VM to check the message, I immediately get another set of garbage characters sent to my phone as a txt message. I called T-Moble, and they did a whole bunch of tests and said nothing is wrong on their end. They thought maybe my SIM card is bad, and asked me to try putting it into another phone. I did try it on Nokia (another unlocked one) and everything worked perfectly. just the Black RAZR doesn't work as of right now... any ideas???

the black RazR is unique to Cingular.. who is unique to the world of refusing to unlock phones for its customers.
perhaps it was a botched outside unlock job??

two things you can do!
1)go to your messages (message center) and hit the menu key and go to "Voicemail setup" and make sure your voicemail number is +18056377243 and notification is set to on. If you are still receiving the odd characters, then ask t-mobile to reset your voicemail all together and see if that works.
2)one other thing for unlocked RAZR users that arent using a phone from their provider (unlocked cingular black RAZR with t-mobile service, like i am), you can flash the t-mobile firmware onto the RAZR which will take everything to do with cingular out of your phone and replace it all with the t-mobile defaults, (t-zones, mms, voicemail, etc) and it also has the video recorder!! Go to www.motox.us and www.motomodders.net for more info and guides on how to flash your phone with T-mobile's firmware, it worked for me and although the back of my RAZR says cingular (on the battery cover), everything inside is all t-mobile with no stupid "Cingular Jack" icons and stuff, just remember to do this at YOUR OWN RISK ONLY!!a.k.a - Kinjutsu11
My statements and views are exactly that, my own, they do not reflect the views or statements from T-Mobile or any company i talk about.

hey Vidguy, would flashing also work for a phone that was "subsidy unlock attempted " more than 5 times and thus locked permanently?
just curious

honestly im not sure, i believe if you flash the phone with a different firmware and if its unlocked it will enable your phone to be unlocked too, but don't quote me on that, try the 2 sites i mentioned above and read through the FAQ's and see if it will help you or not!

Read through the link provided and look for the heading that says:
I keep getting wierd text messages from ^@ and [email protected] and/or my voicemail indicator is always on. How do I fix this? Adjust seem 0032, offset 02, bit 1. Unfortunately, this will likely cause you to lose manual network selection.
