I have had a Kyocera/Qualcomm QCP-2035 phone for the past 7 years with Verizon wireless. I have been satisfied with this phone, despite it being antiquated by today's standards. I can sometimes go months without ever making a call. I mainly use a cell phone for emergencies and to occasionally call someone and say I'm running late. My old analog phone with Verizon wireless is going to "expire" in late Feb, when the analog network will end. I've read Consumer Reports and they recommend T-Mobile for a GSM network carrier. I like the idea of a GSM network since I do travel internationally and it would be neat to be able to use a cell phone in Europe and call home in case plans change etc. I think a pre-paid or pay as you go plan would be best for my light use vs a 2yr contract. Target has a deal until 12/29 where if you buy a $100 phone card (1000 minutes) you get a Nokia 2610 phone for free, but I read that phone won't work internationally and gets poor reviews. Can you all recommend a good quality basic, easy to use phone with clear sound/reception that will work on a pre-paid plan internationally? I don't want music, camera, fancy ringtones etc. I will pay up for a long battery life, simple operation and clear sound/reception? Thanks.

    Wow. That's an old phone!

That's a tough question. There aren't any phones out there that don't have a lot of those features and also are an 'international' phone. You'd be better off having two simple phones. One for home and one for travel. Or since you use your phone so infrequently, get a prepaid phone when you reach your destination. In the long run that will probably be cheaper.
