I'm thinking of switching to t-mobile now that they will pay my ETF, and I would like to just sell my phone on eBay. Do I have to give T-mobile my phone?

You do, unfortunately. They will still give you money for the phone, but maybe not as much as you could sell it for on eBay. It depends on the phone.

Yes you do @Denny45. That is one of the ways that they can recoup some of the money used to payoff your contract. They give you an offer that is well below market and resell the phone through other means to make up for some of the short-term loss.

Depending on which device you have it might be best to sell it yourself and get out of the contract by paying everything off yourself. Just depends on how much you owe, but some devices are worth more than most people think.
