Unlocking a tesco 3220

How do I unlock my Nokia 3220 which is on the TESCO network without
putting £30 credit on it. Please help

But stay away from these "remote unlockers" where they give
you a code (either for free or for a charge). They send you
a code based on your phone's IMEI.

These *can* work, but you still get a list of codes, and have
to "just know" which one will work and, of course, if the code
is wrong, you lose (one 'o') one of your attempts at entering the
code. (Don't know what the limit is)

Much better to go to a CBS or whatever, and pay the 10.00.

You can do it for free very easily. If you searched this newsgroup
before you posted you would have seen a post I made on the very
subject only a few days ago (not the same phone but it will probably
work)

Yes, and? If people don't know how to use the calculator or the codes
provided, them they can always ask. Code 7 is a good place to start, but
code 5 should suffice for most handsets.

So provide the calculator with the right information to start with.

Why am I not surprised? You get five attempts before you need to resort to
having it unlocked using a cable method.

Much cheaper to use the free calculators, and if you're daft enough to screw
it up you can go and pay the £10.

Did it first time yesterday, took me all of 30 sec., just making sure to
enter the network code manually,
tap in code No. 7 as suggested, phone says 'restriction lifted', bingo !

Whenever I see someone giving an unlock code to someone else, it's always
qualified with things such as "in this case, you need to try the 6-code",
"in this case, enter xxxxx rather than the usual yyyyy boxserial", "you
can't unlock a Nokia zzzz if the software version is between m.mm and n.nn"
or whatever.

There seem to be so many exceptions as to make unlocking-by-code very
much hit-and-miss. This is OK if you're doing it all the time and have
sufficient experience and/or a cable unlocker on which to fall-back but,
if your aren't, it isn't.

What's the deal with these "dial 09... and get your phone unlocked" numbers ?
My experience with these services is that (a) they ask for only three bits of
information: IMEI;model; network, (b) they only give one or two codes,
not seven, (c) the given codes always result in "code error"

How do they manage to provide more specific unlock codes with less information ?

There is sufficient info on the trycktill site, they advise to use code 1 or
7.
I used seven, it worked.
Since you have 5 tries, you can easily try 3 or 4 times.

I understand that bit, but where is one supposed to get the "boxserial"
from. Some people claim you have to have the new SIM in, some say
you need no SIM. How do you find out which ASIC you have etc ?

In my experience, these unlock-by-code sites have NEVER worked for me,
in about 16 attempts (different handsets) over 2 years. If the codes
are free, this isn't a problem, because I can just pay 10£ at a CBS
anyway, so nothing lost. If, however, I use one of these 1.50£/minute
services, there's no come-back if it fails to unlock which, in my
case, it always has.

So, what am I doing wrong ?

I am entering the p w = + characters correctly. I've tried it
many times and always the result is failure.

I just used the default one. IIRC it says to try different one if not
successful...
