||| Yeah!

|| Works great for landlines, but not alas mobiles.
That's interesting.
Are you saying that all the networks, except BT, NTL & TW bill based on the
network that delivers the call?

No, he isn't saying that. What makes you misread his meaning?

If you want to be able to terminate your contract at the end of whatever
period you signed up for without a lot of fuss, do not sign up with
three.
I currently have a bill for 0.48 (yes 48 pence!) from 3 because the
refund they applied to correct their error in failing to terminate one
of the two contracts I had with them did not match the incorrect charge
that they had made. I am in the fortunate position that they can't argue
about dates because the two contracts were for the same dates, I wrote
one letter to terminate both, and they terminated one on time. Other
people are not so lucky and and have to deal with 3 denying receiving
letters and denying receiving calls to their call centre to sort out the
mess.
You should plan to have to waste several hours on the phone - to an 0870
revenue generating number after the service ends - and perhaps have to
pay for an additional month or two at full price when you want to escape
from the clutches of 3. You may be lucky and have your contract
termination processed promptly and without errors, but don't count on
it.

At least with a Nokia on 3 you should be able to get it factory reset
to reveal the 2g menu that 3 systematically blank to stop you
locking down to O2 roaming.

Famous last words, lock down to 2g O2 roaming will at least solve that

I said "The way round that, of course, is to port a non-three number to
three"
He said "Works great for landlines, but not alas mobiles"
What did I misread?

I am reasonably happy with 3, and am on my second contract with them.
I live in the suburbs of Bristol, and have no problems with coverage at
all in Bristol, nor on my travels around the country.
Yes, 3 do have a call centre in Mumbai, but they also have call centres
in Liverpool and Glasgow.
The only thing which I find mildly annoying is 3's continued use of the
"walled garden", which limits internet access to 3's approved sites.
I currently use a Nokia 6630 smartphone, which is very good IMO, and has
since been superseeded by the Nokia 6680 and Nokia N70.
However, due to the "walled garden", I cannot currently use 1 of the
applications that I have bought for my phone, as its needs to be updated
over the net, and the WG stops me doing so....
However, according to 3 CS in Glasgow, the "walled garden" will be
removed in favour of full internet access in April / May 2006. We shall
see....
I would love to be able to use "Profimail" for email on my 6630, but
cannot, due to the WG. However, the simple way around this is to add
"3mail" to your account, and then to forward your desired emails from
your main account to your "3mail" account. Gmail should do this very
well, Chris.
Mobileshop offer some good cashback deals on 3, so I would say "Go
ahead, give 3 a go, you may be pleasantly surprised by what 3 offers"
Certainly, 3's days of being "absolute crap" are long gone, I feel.

Jeff
