Does anyone know of a company called The Uplands Group?

I've been a CellNet, latterly O2, customer for a number of years,
purchased the original handset through the Carphone Warehouse and
dealt directly with O2 since then.

Out of the blue today, I've received a solicitation from The Uplands
Group asking if I would like to upgrade my phone / £100 cashback for
keeping the existing one, the caveat being signing a new contract in
their name. They have all the correct details for the phone so I am
just wondering if there is a tie-up with O2 or CPW, or are they just
trying to get my business and the mailing list has been sold
    somewhere?

No intention of signing, just interested as to how they have got my
    details.

Don't forget that addresses and dwellers names are freely available if
you know where to look (UK Info disc for example), so all they need is
your mobile number and they can be quite convincing.

What details did they have of you?

Including mobile numbers? I was under the impression that no directory
    of mobile numbers existed?

    >What details did they have of you?

Exact correct details of the phone, number, tariff and general account
    details.

There are a few Uplands shops in the South Wales area (Cardiff and Swansea
are two I know of) selling phones and in car entertainment . I bought an
analogue Cellnet phone from them probably 10 - 12 years back with no
problems. I don't know if they are now part of CPW or O2.

They do, and much more extensive databases exists privately for
organisations such as cold-callers to use.

Well that level of detail can only have come from one of 2 places - CPW
(The original retailer and Service Provider) or O2.

I believe they may be the same people that started out as Uplands Car
Radios in Gwydr Square in the Swansea suburb called, funnily enough,
    The Uplands.

They do a lot of car audio kit and as I remember, got in to mobiles
quite early on with a tie up with whatever BT's mobile division was
    called at the time.

I understand thay have a number of other branches - Cardiff and
possibly Bristol to name but two.

I've dealt with them locally on a few occasions and find them OK. I
know the Swansea branch is a Nokia service centre.

I understand they also appear on ebay as Uncle Jamal selling second
    hand mobiles etc.

Can't help with how they got your details
