Recommendations for phone unlocker / flasher

I am looking for a cheap solution for casual phone unlocking and flashing.

Is there any particular recommendation?

Mainly I want to reflash a Nokia 7600. I assume that this will get around
the problem of too many attempts to enter the unlock code.

There appear to be a lot of products on the market, but I can't seem to find
a forum that has any threads regarding which unlocker(s)/flashers(s) to
choose. I recall someone on this group recommending a Twister box.

On GSM Forums, they talk about a device called Multi-Box (mainly for
Philips):

Someone mentioned that you shouldn't use any particular hardware, and just
get all the cables. Then find the right software that uses that cable.

Basically, I would like an opinion on:
1) If you can make use of mainly cables and software, is it possible to
download the software through P2P, than pay for it, as you can with FBus?
2) What recommended hardware should I go for today? I am not sure if
Twister boxes have been superceded with things better since?
3) Any particular place to go on the web to ask these questions? The forums
that I have been to do not seem to ask these questions a lot. Been
searching Google for with keywords 'unlock flash mobile phones platform
hardware software'. Any particular term I should be using to search?

UFS would be my choice. Well supported, and does what it says on the tin.

Yep, or simply reset the counter through UFSDCTx.

Twister is now a dead platform as the manufacturer (Raskal) has had a major
falling out with the Saras (the inventor). Support will be unavailable
unless paid for very shortly, and the only difference between a Twister and
UFS is the CFA cardphone flasher which very few people will require anyway
(I've only ever used mine twice in the past two years).

I've never liked either of those devices personally, which is why we don't
stock them. I'd prefer to stock solutions that are reliable, well supported
and which cause very little trouble for potential customers.

You pays your money and makes your choices. What you need to decide is if
you need all the faffing around or if you need a solution that works out of
the box and has decent support.

No. Flashing a DCT4 handset requires a decent solution if you're going to
end up with a working phone.

Twister is now dead and physically is identical to UFS which utilises the
latest software which is no longer written for Twister (although it will
work on the Twister boxes).

Not really. GSMforum is about the best place, but there is that much
infighting and backbiting on there at the moment that it's difficult to sort
constructive posts from mindless rants (particularly where Twister is
concerned).

Hi Richard. Thanx for the detailed response. I believe that you responded
to my last post a year ago. Since then I guess I've made a bit of money
from my cashback contracts and want to put that money back into phone
related stuff.

Just a few more questions.....

1) When you buy UFS, do you pay a subscription for upgrades on a monthly
basis or something?

2) Are these the devices that places like Nokia Service Centre use?

3) On your website, www.gsm-solutions.co.uk, you offer 3 packages. I assume
that its probably not worth me going for HWK at the moment. Is it difficult
to install this later? If it is purchased at the same time I assume its
automatically installed with the UFS device?

Support is ongoing with no additional costs at the moment and will give
access to the support FTP for updated software and firmware.

No. It would cost you several thousands of pounds to buy the same equipment
that an NSC uses. All the devices on the market work in a similar way in
emulating what the official equipment does - the difference lies in how well
they work and how well they are supported on an ongoing basis.

That's a difficult question TBH. HWK does add support for a great deal more
handsets, but if you have no current need to support those phones then I'd
be inclined not to buy one for the moment. Bear in mind that with the
animosity between Saras and Raskal, every time Saras releases a new product
or update, Raskal commissions a crack (or clone) for it (which goes a long
way to explain why the problems started in the first place). HWK is useful,
and using some of the many cracks and workarounds for it can cause major
problems - at the end of the day, you have to make the choice if it's worth
the increased cost.

No, very simple. Unscrew one end of the UFS, slide the main board part way
out and insert the HWK - job done.

Thanx Richard. Just bought one from your GSM site. Just want something to
see what they are like. I think that I'll wait and buy the upgrade later.
I think I can save a bit by buying them both now, but can't justify the cost
unless I was going into serious phone unlocking services.

Oh, just one thing. What's the difference between UFS3-Tornado and
UFS3-Excalibur and UFS3-Polar?

I know the feeling, and thanks for the order. TBH, the unlocking market is
absolutely flooded at the moment, and most of the business we get at
PhoneLocker comes from bad flash repairs and upgrades.

Apart from support, nothing. They're all the same hardware wise.

No probs! ;0) I appreciate the advice you've given. Yes, I figured that
this market would be flooded by now. Its not something I'm looking at
getting into anyway even if there was lots of money to be made - it would
have to be a lot I guess. It was just nice to have the knowledge at the
time the Nokia 7600 came out to be able to fully factory reset the phone to
use on other networks I guess. Its a bit like knowing how to chip an Xbox.

Who knows - you might get a phone from me after I've cocked up flashing it!
