vodafone mobile broadband

How can it download at up to 7.2mbps, when the maximum speed of the
network is 1.8mbps (hsdpa)?
Is it something to do with the modem technology?
Can anyone elucidate?

HSDPA has a roadmap of speed increases, 1.8 > 3.6 > 7.2. I believe vodoofone
may have switched on some 7.2 kit in some *very* central bits of London.

Out of interest my boss has a USB modem from 3 and gets 3.6 round the
Blackpool area. He says its works brilliantly.
