Pretty much every major Android smartphone manufacturer out there has already unveiled its latest high-end smartphone(s) for year 2013. Sony has revealed both the
Xperia Z and ZL back at CES, LG has its
Optimus G Pro, HTC has great faith in the One and the
Samsung Galaxy S4 is impossible to be ignored. But, there's someone missing from this picture and if you've guessed "Motorola" then you've got the right answer.
Motorola's latest and greatest is last year's
Droid RAZR HD which, although is a pretty decent high-end smartphone, it's nowhere near as impressive as the current generation of handsets that boast 1080p displays, powerful Snapdragon 600 processors (or S4 Pro in Sony's case), 13 MP cameras (not counting the HTC One's Ultrapixel sensor) and 2 GB of RAM. Needless to say, Motorola needs to pick up the pace if it wishes to be any part of this competition.
Sure enough, a ton of leaks and rumors have surfaced during the past few months, indicating that the aforementioned smartphone manufacturer has a so called "X Phone" in the works. The rumors have been quite compelling, hinting at a ceramic chassis and other impressive features. Nonetheless, nothing is set in stone and the latest rumors are now indicating that the X Phone might join the game a bit later in the year. Too late if you ask me.
Cutting to the chase, here's what sources are now claiming. Apparently the X Phone is currently in its early prototype phase, it boasts a 4.7 inch 1080p display, it lacks an SD card slot and it runs on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean with minor changes to the user interface.
More importantly, the same sources now claim that despite earlier reports, the Motorola X Phone will be released in August or later than that. Previous rumors were hinting that the gadget could hit the shelves in late June or early July, but according to the latest, that's not going to be the case.
That doesn't sound too good for Motorola, or for fans of the brand. Nonetheless, keep in mind that nothing is confirmed at this point and the above information is subject to change.
What do you think? Would you be willing to wait until August or later in the year in order to see what Motorola has to offer? What kind of hardware spec would compel you to wait that long, and what do you expect from the X Phone? Share your thoughts below.
