I will be traveling abroad this fall to Dublin, Ireland. I've been looking at different options for my cell phone and it appears that using a prepaid sim card would be ideal. I found the thread about prepaid sim cards useful, but I am still confused on whether my phone can be used so I have a few questions.

    1. I have a Motorola Slvr L6, and my service provider is Cingular. From the specs. it says that it is GSM. Does this mean it will work while abroad?

    2. Will I need to unlock my phone before getting a new sim card and if I do, how do I go about that?

    3. I plan on traveling while abroad and was wondering what type of sim card should i get. Should I get one country specific or a roaming sim card? I only plan on traveling outside of Ireland a couple times a month.

I think thats about it. Thanks for any help.

    Re: Traveling Abroad

if it's quadband you'll be ok to use it

you may need to get it unlocked, try a friends/relatives sim (non cingular) in your phone to see if it's locked, if it is you can contact cingular to get it unlocked (this may only be allowed after contract expires and may be cargeable) or you can sometimes get the phone unlocked at mobile phone stores perhaps

irish networks include o2, vodafone and meteor

you should be able to buy payg sims from ebay
